Kids calling their stepparents "Mom" or "Dad'

Anon2009's picture

I guess I kind of have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I think some kids call their stepparent "Mom" or "Dad" by accident or do so because it makes them feel better, it makes the situation easier on them, and they genuinely do like their stepparent. I have to say that my SDs have called me "Mom" Smile but most of the time they call me by my real name.

When It Rains It Pours Part 2

The week before my husband was supposed to come home... and I am on my way back from SD getting diagnosed with H1N1...

I get a phone call.

My 76 year old father fell off a scaffold. 6-7 feet in the air. Working on siding on a rental property he has with my sister.

Luckily the neighbor saw him and his co-worker fall off the scaffold and called 911. The ambulance took his co-worker... but my father refused to go! He hit his head, but said he was "fine".

BIG step for BM, Still surprised....

Ok this weekend we had SS (our visitations wkend), and BM was not going to be able to have him for Halloween at all, since visitation starts Friday at 6, end Sunday at 6. She let us have SS the previous wkend for my BD's bday, but she wanted us to let her have him this last Friday so she could take him trick or treating.

An entry in the dumbest BM contest

In the divorce, DH was allowed to claim one kid--every year, no contingencies. BM wrote this up herself. Remember that point.
The first year after the divorce, we asked her to sign the custodial parent form--you don't need this, you can send a copy of the divorce instead. She wouldn't sign it, big surprise, and got mad at DH saying to him, "You f****** me" meaning taking the exemption.
Too bad, BM!
Today we got a letter from the IRS saying someone else had used SKIDS social on their tax return. Three guesses who.

How should I handle Christmas and Birthday gift????

Alright folks...opinions needed...

DH has been out of work since July. We are BARELY making it by the skin of our teeth on my income. So Christmas and SD17's birthday are both in December. I CANT AFFORD or much less want to buy the child anything. We are getting my other kids toys only because there is a toy swap at church, where you bring old toys and exchange them for new ones, so its free. We can't obviously get her toys...she is 17. How do I handle this with DH?

The end is almost here..I think..

I have posted on this topic before but now we are down to the wire. So SD17 turns eighteen in six weeks. I think DH and I need to sit down with SD17 and have serious conversation letting her know that time is up. If we don't, I can just see her saying, well you didn't let me know etc etc and she will go nowhere and it will drag on and on. She has told BM that she wants to graduate with her BF, so she is trying to butter up DH into letting her stay until graduation. Meanwhile MIL has already told her to come live with her and she would buy her a car.

sick 13 yr old

helpmeinwi's picture

My 13 yr old SS was sick from Tues-Sat....too sick to go to school, football practice, football game, or do his chores. But, miraculously, my DH took him to ex-wives house to trick-or-treat Sat. evening after being too sick to move off the couch, where he sat all day "being sick& infecting the rest of the house". I'm sorry, but I blew up. What are the rules in your houses regarding sick kids?
