Laundry learning
SD11 will start learning next weekend. Piles of laundry, sheets, towels, clothes, overflowing her laundry basket. First time this has happened.
Don't mind running her things within reason but holy mother I don't even have that much after a full week let alone three days...

Why didn't I think of this sooner?
First, my throwing of empty boxes and containers that are put back into the fridge or cupboard makes me happy. They are out of my way and DP gets the message to clean them up. We're out of milk apparently so I get to buy myself a latte on the way to work; oh wait, no DP will.

So Far, So Good
Since the start of school, there's been very little drama.
I had to do some shuttling of SD9 to/from school but that was discussed with DP before I agreed to do it and he made some concessions for me in return. This is the key, I'll do it for a good reason but not if DP "just doesn't feel like it." Because I "just feel like doing it for you?" No. DP is getting that loud and clear.

Spying on Skids, Dad doesn't get it
Wow - this was on Dear Prudence today.
I think Dad is in denial.

Chaotic two first days of school
So school finally started yesterday.
1) DP has no car right now. His was having major issues and plus some at the beginning of summer. Did he take care of it over the summer? No. Is the total cost to fix the car very large at this point? Yes. Is the car just sitting in the shop? Yes. Do we actually NEED two cars? Yes. Are we using only my car? Yes.

One step forward, one step back
So yesterday I was chatting with DP about his day. He had a hard one with work and then he had to take care of SD9 on top of it. He was saying that if he had to deal with SD9 and lunch every day he'd go nuts.
I gave him some comiseration and then just said, "That's why I just either give her lunch or if I need to take her out I just go somewhere. I make the choice, not her." (she cannot make up her mind and will nix everything you suggest otherwise...needless to say I don't do this often)
DP says, "I'm doing this ass-backawards aren't I?"

"Chores" and why they are important
Apparently, many of us are dealing with toddler-level competance even with skids MUCH, MUCH older...
I love the 6 - 11 yo list. LOL. Yeah, right.
In the recent past I'd give DP a copy of this. Now, nope. Not holding my breath.

Towel bars are hard to use....
So I was in SDs bathroom today, because family is visiting and I put up some towels for them. Noticed SD9 towel bar was half loose. Go to take a look and it's actually partly yanked off wall. This was just put in, by me with SD9 help and I advised her to be careful and not yank her towels or hang herself off the bar, in June.

...school starts
...SD11 was in a STATE last night. Nervous, exited, scared, and completely hyper. Her first day of middle school was today.
She even cleaned her room, stripped her bedding, re-made her bed, cleaned under her bed and her closet. Took a shower! Set her alarm for the morning! Refused to talk with BM! I just stayed clear.
Still haven't heard from DP...getting worried...did he let her skip? He usually avoids me if it's something I'm not going to like to hear...tried contacting him 2x this morning and still nothing.

Disengagement, III
Ignoring all laundry but for what's in laundry baskets. This one is easy for me. Anything on floor or stuffed under beds is ignored. If only one pair of pants and two pairs of underwear are in basket after two weeks of habitation not my problem. No clean clothes for first day of school? Not my problem. The rule has been in place for over a year.
