I Predicted It!

Chef told me NO WAY is SD (18.5) going to college. Well according to the Girhippo she is going to local community college (probably on the new "free college" program) for Criminal Justice.

Apparently SD wants to be a Probation Officer (after being a fan of OITNB). I was looking up the requirements to take the civil service test here and it's basically a Bachelors degree in Social Services with two years experience as a social services caseworker OR a graduate degree.

Getting fully immersed in Dark Shadows. I'm on episode 170 or so where they do a séance to figure out who has put the mistress of the house, Elizabeth Stoddard, into a trance. Vicky Winters starts to channel Josette Collins by speaking French and almost calls out the evil Phoenix, Laura Collins.

Laura stops this of course, by mind controlling/hexing Vicky. It's getting pretty good! Can't wait to see if Laura gets custody of David. No spoilers please!

Allow participation in school plays or extracurricular activities after a student has flipped off teachers, received repeated referrals and detentions, skipped classes chronically and failed to turn in class work and homework assignments all the while crater failing academically?

Regardless of the school policy, as an experienced parent of successfully raised children I would not have allowed my child to get involved in the school play knowing that my child has disrespected authority and was failing academically. But then again I was never a BFF parent.

Went to the funeral of a co-worker today. Young family man, always cheerful, responsible, jovial--same age as my oldest daughter--35.

On his way home from work he was side swiped by a 41 year old woman who ran the stop sign. Claimed she didn't see it. Fortunately she is extremely remorseful.

This guy was a correctional officer but always kept light hearted about his job. The funeral itself was beautiful and the talk given by his young widow was heart breaking. He left two young daughters, 6 and 2 years of age.

He will be missed.

So Looks Like SD will be BARELY Graduating HS and NO Mention of College. . .

SD turned 18 last November and is finishing up her last year of High School next month.
NO mention of college--she absolutely DETESTS school. The Girhippo has had a "no rules/school optional" policy for her entire school year--SD just gives up when something isn't fantastically fun to do.

I can't off hand think of a major in college that would be nothing but fun. Of course CS is supposed to continue till 21 here unless she has no intent of going to college and is working full time.

Aaaannnnnnnd Yet ANOTHER Detention/Referral for Blowing off Earlier Assignments

And the teacher writes:

"After not completing several assignments due over a week ago, I told Prince Hygiene that he had to stay after school with me. I stated that I would need to write a detention referral if he did not show. He was a no show again."

This detention comes on the heels of Prince Hygiene flipping off an adult school monitor and receiving detention for that (which he didn't show up for that either)

Chef works part time at a place that does tire installations, etc. He has a co-worker who is a 20-something useless blob. ZERO work ethic. Chef told me that this kid's parents divorced at an early age and then fought over who had the house with the fewest rules (sound familiar?)

1. those who let their children run wild with no consequences
2. those who are EXHAUSTED from constantly trying to distract and "re-direct" their children away from dangerous/undesirable behavior.

Example:

Flying back from Texas yesterday, I saw a young couple board adjacent to us with their 20 month old son (I know how old he was because a flight attendant asked--you'll see why)
