Am I Being Unreasonable?

Drac0's picture

We are having a party this weekend. It’s BS’s birthday. Well actually his birthday was a couple of weeks ago but DW and I decided to move the celebrations to this weekend in order to accommodate certain family members and SS. SS is actually with us this weekend which is a rare occurrence.

Well SS asked if he could have a friend over. DW and I thought it was a good idea. It would give SS the opportunity to socialize with one of his school mates on the weekend.

SS's Daily Homework Log (Week 2)

Day 6: I come home to find SS doing work on his bed. I ask what is he doing. He says he is doing a geography assignment. I ask “Why aren’t you doing it on your de – eh?…” I was about to say ‘desk’ as I turn to it. His desk has disappeared. In its place is a mountain pile of empty Coke cans, lego blocks, a slinky, and other junk. “What the!? SS! WHAT IS THIS MESS!?”. SS just shrugs his shoulders. Apparently we have a poltergeist that likes piling sh*t up on SS’s desk. I go ask DW about it.

Yes SS, we snuck off to McDonalds without you.

So on our last date night, (last Friday), my folks decided to take BS and BD for a treat at McDonalds. They each got a little toy.

SS discovered one of these toys in BS’s room and proceeds to question me about it. I however, am completely oblivious and it took me a while to get wise to SS’s line of questioning. Conversation went like this:

SS: “Draco, did you guys go to McDonalds recently?”

Me: “No.”

SS: “Are you sure?”

Me: “Yes.”

SS: “Are you really sure?”

Me: “Yes, I am *REALLY* sure. Why do you ask?”

The Job and the Stress

I am starting to worry about DW.

For starters, it doesn’t help that we are both super busy at work and have a hard time communicating. DW just works down the street from me, but she may as well be working in a vacuum sealed bank vault on the moon. She is not allowed using her cell which means the only time she can talk to me is on her lunch break. The problem is, her lunch break is at 1pm which is when I am in my meetings. So if she calls me and I happen to be free we’re lucky. Most days we don’t speak to each other all day.

Evolution?

SS took a shower for the last three days in a row. THREE! :O

And all with no prompting or nagging from from DW. He just got out of bed and proceeded straight into the washroom to shower each morning!

Shopping Spree!

DW is starting a new job next week. She is in desperate need of a new wardrobe. So the only time she has to shop is between now and Monday.

Originally the plan was to get my folks to baby-sit BS, BD and SS and I accompany DW on Saturday. Unfortunately, a good friend of my Dad’s just passed away and he and my Mom are going to the wake on Saturday. They are also busy on Sunday so they can’t babysit the kids.

We were *thinking* of letting SS babysit the two little ones but DW and I are both in agreement that SS is just not ready for that responsibility.

SS doesn't like doing chores.

Yesterday I come home to a sight that put a smile on my face.

SS was sweeping the floor while DW was chewing his ear off. I mean she was really lacing into him. SS had one, ONE chore to do that day and that was to sweep the floor. DW is usually home from work before I am where she found SS sitting on the lazy boy watching TV. DW asked him if he had swept the floor like he was supposed to. SS says no. DW asks him why.

His answer?

“I don’t like sweeping the floors.”

So imagine my small amount of confusion when I come home to hear DW yelling things like:

DW bought SS a PSP a couple of years ago. I told DW that I thought it was a bad idea. Its expensive and I just knew SS would lose it. DW wanted to get it because SS really, really wanted one. About 6 months after she bought it for him SS loses it. It’s been missing ever since. DW and SS have searched high and low for it and have come up with bupkis.

Flash forward to today. This morning in fact.
