Glad to be spending most of the day away from DH and SS13

Yesterday was so weird. SS comes home from school, tries to get on his computer first before doing homework and of course whines at us, but does his homework. Then, as soon as it's done, is all of a sudden up on his feet saying "Time to do my extra chores!" I mean, with excitement and everything. (Backgrond: extra chores so he can earn money faster to buy a card game he wants) He even did today's chore yesterday. I don't know what they fed him at school lunch yesterday, but they need to keep that up.

SS13 voluntarily doing more chores. THE WORLD IS ENDING.

I traveled out of town this weekend to a funeral, leaving DH and SS alone to their own devices. Not really the smartest thing in the world, but hey, I needed to be there for my best friend. On my way home I get a phone call from DH asking how I was doing and saying that they had stopped into Game Stop while waiting on the movie to start and SS found this card game he really wanted. My first thought was "OMFG HOW MUCH MONEY DID YOU JUST SPEND??" Luckily the next words out of his mouth were "I didn't spend any money." He was spared my wrath.

Out of the mouth of SS13

When dealing with bedtime, he says "You guys are so strict."

My exact response. "Yup. Suck it up buttercup."

That boy has things easy, and wouldn't know the definition of strict if he fell out of the strict tree and hit every branch on the way down. One chore a day plus little things as asked, homework before playing on the computer when he gets home from school, and an 11:30 bedtime. I wish I had it that good when I was his age.

I mean, if he really wants strict, I was military, I can be strict. }:)

School starts tomorrow...

And SS13 is a little scared. Brand new school in a brand new state, with all new people. Plus a lot of new rules at the school that he's not used to. I honestly think the only part he's liking about this right now is that he loves his school clothes. I mean seriously loves them, to the point that we've had to ask him to stop wearing them and wear his regular clothes.

I'm so not ready for the bedtime fight tonight. Or the 5:45 am wake up fight tomorrow, and the homework fight tomorrow afternoon. At least his dad will be here to help with the homework fight.

FU SO and skid, FU

Okay, so background. Broken foot, not supposed to walk. And now a hairline fracture in my wrist because I went ass over tea kettle (seriously flew over the handlebars) on my knee walker when I hit a handicap pad on the sidewalk. I know, right?

I hate the phrase "I'll do it in a minute"

So the skid has greatly stepped up when it has come to helping me with things I need due to my broken foot and not being able to walk.

But doing his own chores...ohemgee. Right now there's a basket of his laundry sitting right beside him. When he brought it up from the basement (several hours agao) his dad told him to fold/hang the clothes up. "I'll do it in a minute." Then right back on his computer.

Sort of off topic, sort of not.

So we're downtown today, visiting a store doing a promotion for free school supplies and to see about getting SO and SS new phones. (They went swimming with thiers last month) There was some serious confusion between us and the store manager on the different promotions going on, so since he was nearby (all the stores in the area were doing the give away today), the district manager was going to come in and speak with us.

I feel like I'm living in the movie Idiocracy.

SS13 keeps a plastic tray on his bed to set his cups on. He's got a nightstand, but whatever.

We've been having issues with sugar ants this year. I walk past his bed, and he's got an ant trap on his tray, with a ring of dead ants all around it.

Me: Why do you have an ant trap on your tray?

SS: I had some soda and spilled a little bit and all these ants came, so I put the trap there and it's working.

Me: *eyes rolling* Why didn't you just wipe the tray off?

SS: Oh yeah, that's a good idea.

Seriously...are you that incapable?

Venting here...

Asked SS to take the trash out this afternoon. He pulls the bag out of the can, then looks at it, confused. He looks over to me and says "I don't know how to tie this."

HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO TIE THE STRINGS ON A FLIPPING TRASH BAG?? Honestly, it's not rocket science, and you're 13 years old for pete's sake!

I tell him to tie it in a double knot. Oh the utter hilarity. I had to force myself to not laugh as I watched the Beast attempt to tie a double knot with the trash bag strings.
