Will the Babying EVER End?

TwoOfUs's picture

Small, dumb story from this morning.

While we were still in bed talking DH says...

DH: "My new thing is always having two beds made up in the basement room...so if either of the kids is over and wants to stay, it's ready for them. Or if we have impromptu guests." (We have had several impromptu guests lately.)

Me: "Mmmmmm."

DH: "I just want YSD to feel like she always has a place here, you know?"

Me: **crickets**

Should Stepmoms be Treated Like Adult Humans?

TwoOfUs's picture

So, been reading a bit on this post and the OP's former post about an entirely kid-centric vacation where her needs were mostly ignored:

One commenter mentioned something about how Stepmoms often go to family events, just expecting to be considered and treated like any other normal adult human would be treated...only to be surprised by the fact that they are not.

Does anyone else get really annoyed by how your teen skids talk?

Gah.

Just a quick, small vent.

I cringe and hate it when my SD16 (going on 17) starts talking or telling us some story. It's like...she's trying to sound hip and way cooler than she is, and it's just nails on a chalkboard for me.

It's all clipped and slangy and unnatural for her like: "So. Dad. I saw this hella cute guy at work todaaayyy...and I was like, on point..."

Again. I know it's absurd but it just grates on my last nerve.

Anyone else with teen skids have this issue? Why is it so irritating when they talk? Or is it just me?

WooHoo!!! Unexpected February/March Skid Break

TwoOfUs's picture

Not a lot going on over here.

I told DH that he has to contribute to the household account equally by the 5th of each month or I'm moving out...and lo-and-behold...he's done January and February and has money saved up for his March contribution so far. Let's hope this trend continues.

Plus, DH got an out-of-town job for 4 weeks starting the last week in February. I will miss him, of course, but this also means that I get 4 blissful, skid-free weeks. Woot, woot!

SS18 Could Move In & Pay Rent!! HA HA HA HA HA!!

So, yesterday, DH and I were discussing using some of our Christmas money from his parents and some of my Christmas bonus to finally redo the basement into a mini-apartment.

We've been talking about this for a while...it's already half-finished, and it wouldn't cost that much to thoroughly finish it out, add a separate entrance and a bathroom. Not only would this increase the value of the home considerably...but we live right near the downtown of a mid-sized city that's a pretty popular tourist destination, so we've also considered doing the AirBnb thing for extra income.

How Loud Are Your Skids?

TwoOfUs's picture

Quick survey.

How old are your skids...and how loud on a scale of 1-10? How loud are they when talking to each other or to friends? How loud do they turn on the TV?

Mine are teens (SS18, SD16...and one SD20 who no longer comes over), and I just don't think I was ever this loud, even as a teen.

I'd put them at a solid 8.5 for normal conversation. Basically it sounds like they're always yelling everything they say. If they get excited, animated...argumentative...it goes straight to 11.
