Car saga is finally over

JRI's picture

SD60 ran into a deer recently and totaled her car on which she had let insurance lapse.  She was miraculously unhurt, the car was smashed up pretty badly when she went down an embankment.   DH and I have been running around with her from tow yard to tow yard to finance company to car dealers.  But, Saturday, we selected a car and only awaited her obtaining new insurance.

Car saga, the next episode

So, we got up today, picked up SD, went to the finance company to get the lien release, called the tow company and decided to go there Monday, went to the dealership, test drove the car back to our house, had our retired used car dealer neighbor look it over, went back, negotiated and bought the car.  We pick it up Monday.

During all this, SD was very confused, got names wrong, bad directions, couldnt remember things.  DH said, "Your'e a bubble off!".  She drove the car from the dealership to our house, about 5 blocks, but it was alarming.

Help me stay strong, guys

I posted last week about SD60 wrecking her $14k car after she'd let her insurance expire.  You knew and I knew this would usher in plenty of drama and now here we are.

DH84 has some $ and plans to buy her a small used car.  Ok, I agree so far.  Today, he was discussing it and asked me to look online about buying a used car.  We are older and have never done this but our kids have and I know people do it all the time.

Just another day is SD60 land

SD60 has 2 daughters, C and M.  C  called today and asked for Grandpa and said " bad news".  I handed him the phone knowing it was about SD60.  C said SD60 wanted DH84 to call.  She had an accident yesterday, she hit a deer and totalled her car.  They took her to the hospital for a checkup but released her with no injuries.  She had let the insurance lapse on her car which was worth about $15k.

This ought to be good

YSS51 is DH's favorite child, by far.  He has always been proud of his handsome, athletic, witty son and could never stand to hear even the mildest negative comment about him.  I now have a mutually respectful relationship with YSS but I am not blind to his flaws.

Memories

We raised 5 kids in our blended family.  I'm still not over the trauma.  We went thru everything imaginable and we are lucky everyone is alive and doing their thing.  Many of those events are seared in my mind.

OSS58 was here this weekend to help clean up after storm damage.  He came inside afterwards.  At one point, he said something about us all living here.  Then he said, " I don't remember much about it."  WHAT???  He was here about half the time from age 9 to 13 when he moved in full-time.  He left at 18.

Disinterested Grandpa

I'm 76 and DH is 83.  We raised 5 kids and have 9 GKs.  My DH is a warm, caring, funny man but he's had it with kids.  3 of our GDs have recently invited us, or wanted to talk with him and he's balking.  I understand how he feels but I hate to see their feelings be hurt.

Staying disengaged in the minefield

My SD59 was here today.  DH83 has her come over about once a week to help with gardening and housework.  It's a way he can legitimize the $ he gives her.  She's a hairdresser, so she also cuts his hair.  Plus, he wants to see her in person to monitor how she's doing.  I have been disengaged from her for about 4 years due to the theft, lying, drug use and hell she put us through during a 10- month stay.
