Responsibility w/out authority...

Cover1W's picture

Yesterday morning we were out of half and half AGAIN because SD13 uses it for her cereal sometimes (dh has told her not to but you all know that's meaningless), because she doesn't want to use the whole milk or she'll use it in her mac n cheese instead of milk.

The milk container was left empty in fridge and no note to get more was on list, everyone knows my rules. I don't mind getting things that are essential and no one makes assumptions about what I do.

Door Locking Saga

Cover1W's picture

Since I refuse to disengage from the issue with the house doors remaining unlocked...and no one home...

I clearly gave DH an ultimatum of "one more time and I call the locksmith and you will pay for it" if I come home to the front door (or back door) unlocked I have to give him that one time.
He said he'd "talk with her" about it.

Disengagment Otherwise Insane

1) THE ROOM:
DH was AGAIN taking out SDs trash for them and complaining about how 'disgusting' is was and how they just leave it. I told him "Why should they do it if they know you'll do it for them?" He says that they should do it...me,"Then you don't touch it and make them do it!" "But it's gross!" he states. "And that's exactly why you leave it for them to LEARN that!" And he comes back with..."They don't separate the trash and recycle." Me, exasperated, "Yes you need to watch them and make sure they do it and do it right and that means you make the effort!"

That was Exhausting

Some weekends...just no rest.
VENT. A total VENT.
Just frustrated that my weekend was over yet again.

We had SDs for another 5 days in a row due to something about mother's day and BM's birthday. Apparently we don't, in turn, have a double time off at the end of the month. Found this out on Friday.

Time Froze, I swear...

SD13 was nominated by her teachers to participate in a special travel program next June. Only 35 kids in her class were picked, so it's a big deal. This would be her first "independent" travel.
Basically it's based on her being a good, active and engaged student.

...and she has to raise $2K.
The group is required to do fundraising and SD13 will also have to earn money to go (DH and BM will both chip in as well but it's been made clear that she has skin in this one).
So she's figuring out what she can do to earn money.

Spring Break

So far, so good.

Last week DH cooked dinner 3 nights in a row! Not always what I wanted (i.e. where's the veg?) but he did it. He cleaned the kitchen and everything too.

I visited a friend out of town over the weekend which was so fun!

Meantime, DH went grocery shopping, cleaned the floors, realized the SDs stank and SD13 still wasn't brushing her teeth. When I returned HE initiated a good convo with me about his concerns and we had a good discussion. Basically, it's up to him.

Vacation Planning

So DH and I agreed that we'd take the SDs somewhere this summer for a shorter, local vacation.
Somewhere fun that has a lot to do and then on the way back we can stop at a nicer place for he and I.
It would be affordable and the SDs would have fun....they are pretty good travelers now that they are older so it's not an issue like it was before.

BM Entitlement

Um, Wow.

BM, since just before we were married in Sept., was on about me contributing to the SDs expenses and so forth, yeah, no. DH effectively shut her down on that. Then she got all into not wanting to pay for her half of their insurance premium (which is currently on my plan at work, because it's super affordable and really good coverage which I did for DH when he lost his) and why don't I just pay it.
I told DH that if she pulls that then I will never, ever cover them again and they will be off my plan in a hot minute once our open enrollment comes about (soon!).
