My First Sorta-Mother's Day

CBCharlotte's picture

I have no bios, and don't really think of myself as a mother. Yes, I have stepkids, but even when I refer to myself as "stepmom" it sounds weird. Like I'm being a phony. I've been married to DH for 8 months and in the skids lives for about 4 years. I have an awesome relationship with all the skids, great relationship with BM1 and pretty good with BM2.

I view myself more as a fun aunt then a stepmom, I guess. I'm only 28 and have no bios (and no interest in having any in the immediate future) so maybe that is why I don't feel like a "mom"

SDs and dating expectations/chivalry

DH, SD16, and I went to spin class and dinner together on Tuesday, her first time at Spin. She did great! She is thin but lazy, so we've been encouraging her to get more active.

Anyway, when we were at dinner, SD16 was telling us how she doesn't like her journalism teacher because he is sexist. I asked what he did that was sexist. She said "He sometimes talks to us about dating. Like how the boy should open doors for you!"

Long Vent - Fight with DH about Child Support

CBCharlotte's picture

As a backstory: Married to DH about 6 months. Together 5 years in June. Great relationship with 4 skids (SD15, SD12, SS6 and SS4). Great relationship with BM1 and pretty good relationship with BM2. I'm 28, DH is 51.

DH was a very high level banking exec making 600K+ a year. Was going through the divorce when I met him and was in guilty dad mode. Signed off in mediation on $2,900 child support for BM2, was already paying BM1 $2,500. This was not a major stretch with his income.

Nice try BM2 - Medical Costs

CBCharlotte's picture

BM2 just submitted her own homemade spreadsheet/bill for our 50% of medical costs. Earlier in the year, she took SS6 to see a psychologist since he kept getting in trouble for being the school bully. She couldn't be bothered to check if they were in network. It would have cost $20 for her to go in network. Instead she just picked one, which cost $130 per session, no insurance covered. She tried to submit that on the bill.

Our Christmas is about to begin...

We have all 4 skids Dec 28-Jan 3rd. Thankfully they are great kids, but 4 is still a handful! I have no bios. This is our first Christmas together since SO and I have been married (we were just dating last Christmas).

Give me the patience to deal with SS6, SS4, SD15 and SD12 for a whole week Smile

I am excited for them to open presents. They are usually very thankful/grateful/appreciative and I think I picked out some good ones this year.

Anyone else have a diabetic skid?

CBCharlotte's picture

My oldest SD (SD15) is a Type 1 Diabetic (T1D). She was diagnosed around 10 or 11. She has an Omnipod (little pod that sticks to her skin with a needle in for 2-3 days at a time and can inject insulin wirelessly) and it is relatively controlled. DH used to carefully monitor her, including checking her blood sugar once or twice in the middle of the night.

Lice attack! - May be medical TMI

CBCharlotte's picture

SD15 texted us last night and let us know she has head lice!!! YUCK! She stayed with us all weekend, and her friend slept over Saturday night. She now has head lice as well.

SD15 said her head had been itching her for a week before she realized she had lice.

Meanwhile, on Monday I noticed a small rash behind my left ear, which has spread a bit to under my ear and a small bit of my face. I've been putting benadryl cream on it.
