Prayers Please: Depressed and Hallowed

helena_brass's picture

This is O/T, so I am sorry. I spent the last couple of days in the hospital with my mother. She has had congestive heart failure for several years, but Monday night she passed out at the wheel. My legally-blind grandfather was able to stop the car, and thankfully they were on a residential street. She's been in the hospital since then. They're going to put in a defibrillator, and take away her driver's license for a while.

Okay, Excitement! Am I Weird?

Call me crazy, but I was actually excited about shopping for the skids.

I know, I know, I probably sound like a nut, but I don't have kids of my own and I have found a sudden fondness for children's clothing. It's just so cute! Please hit me over the head.

When I came home from shopping I had purchased them quite a bit more than I'd intended. FDH looked at me like I was crazy. I know kids aren't excited about clothes, but apparently I am.

Mixed Feelings: BM Moving

helena_brass's picture

We've heard through the kids that BM gripes about not having enough money. FDH is always annoyed to hear this because BM rents a 3 bedroom house, and the rent is his entire CS payment. If she moved to a smaller place and managed her money more wisely she wouldn't need to go whining to her lawyer that FDH's CS isn't enough to support the kids.

WWYD: FB Friends with FSIL?

FDH's younger brother called last week to talk to FDH. His wife, FSIL, also talked to FDH. Then she asked to talk to me. Now, I've never met either of them as they live in another state. However, I know that FSIL and BM get along fairly well. I don't know how well, as I don't really know either one of them. But I've never reached out to FSIL for this reason.

FSS5 Sick; BM Calling CONSTANTLY

helena_brass's picture

This weekend FSS5 was a little sick (not feverish, just coughing a little and lethargic). BM claims that FSS threw up a couple times on Friday, but I don't know if that meant he coughed and a little food came out or what. She's really a hypochondriac. She sent him over with children's advil. Isn't that stuff bad for kids? Besides, it was a pain reliever/fever reducer and he didn't need that so much as your basic cough medicine (if anything).

RANT: "Helena, my mom has no money."

This is what FSS5 said to me when I asked if they had hung any Christmas lights yet.

Okay, maybe it was a little presumptuous of me to assume that they would hang Christmas lights, but we had just bought lights for our house and the kids were bummed that they wouldn't be able to hang them with us. ANYWAY, while we were dropping off the kids I heard BM ask FSS if he wanted to go get a tree. Without skipping a beat he asked, "Do you have money for that?" She kind of laughed and said yes, she has the money.

FSS's Birthday Request--Funny

helena_brass's picture

FSS just turned 5. Sometimes his words come out a little slurred, so it's hard to understand him. When we asked him what he wanted for his birthday it took us a while to understand that the word he was pronouncing was "dynamite." He also asked for a match, so that he could light the dynamite.

When asked why he wanted dynamite, he said--word for word-- "To blow up Santa."

Wee Rant: Entitlement En Masse

I know there are a lot of other issues in the article, but it's this one that struck me: the concern that kids won't eat it if it doesn't appeal to their spoiled palettes.

Seriously, it's a subsidized meal, and you're concerned that "kids won't eat it"? They will if they're hungry enough! If not, why are we paying for this again?
