Entitled SD story from SM at hair salon today

Still Have Hope's picture

Went to the hair salon for a cut and color today. Another SM was sitting in the chair beside me. There is something about the hair salon chairs that make a woman start telling all their personal business. Apparently her 14 year old SD moved in a year ago to make SM's life hell after BM moved in with a boyfriend who had no room for the skid. the skid skips school, gets in fights, fails her classes, refuses to do any chores... you have all heard this story before.

Am I turning into a old prude?

Still Have Hope's picture

SD21 is enrolled in a church affiliated private college. She is taking a class called Women and Technology. Apparently she had a project to complete for this class. SD sent DH a text complete with photos of her project. The topic of her project ... Sex toys! Her display included a large variety of sex toys and vibrators.
Who sends this to their dad???
Who turns this type of project into a professor at a small religous college? Am I just turning into a prudish old lady? All of it has me sick to my stomach.

Christmas gift from SD22

Still Have Hope's picture

Some may remember SD20 gave me a used paperback with missing pages for Christmas. It reaked of cigarette smoke and cat pee - just like BM's house. I threw it in the trash as she pulled out of the driveway.
Well, SD22 gave me a coffee mug from my favorite TV show. She paid enough attention to know that I love this program and went out of her way to order it just for me. While not expensive (I would expect a student to buy expensive gifts) her gift was thoughtful and personal. I was surprised and grateful. Sometimes being a SM is not so bad.

A gift from SD20

We had our gift exchange with SD20 tonight as she will be spending Christmas Day with BM. She gave me a used paperback book with several pages missing and several more ripped out and hanging out the back. It was wrapped in a plastic trash bag. If it is the thought that counts, I guess I know what she was thinking.
My mother raised me right. I just smiled and said thank you.

SD20 brags on facebook about failing only one class this semester

Still Have Hope's picture

SD20 took only the minimum courses (4) this semester. Failed math course. Got c's other 3 courses. She doesn't work at all. Never had a paying job ever. And she brags about failing only one course on her facebook page. All her life BM has lowered the bar so her poor Child of Divorce would feel no pressure to succeed. This is what BM's parenting gets us - an immature failure who thinks she is doing great at college. This is my stepdaughter who says "I may be 20 years old but I am 5 inside."

SD busted

Yesterday DH, the bios and I went Xmas shopping. This is our yearly tradition since DH and I like to have all the shopping done before Thanksgiving. Friday SD22 called to say she would like to meet us for dinner after she gets off work. We had planned to go to the mall closest to our house but SD22 works in a town 40 miles north so DH says we will to the downtown mall instead that is 10 minutes from the restaurant where SD works.

Text from BM during my birthday celebration

For my birthday DH, myself and 3 other couples we hang with went to a local wine bistro. For special occasions they will do a private wine tasting & tapas party with an amazing array of food. So during my fabulous birthday party DH gets a text. He had his phone on because DD13 was home alone. I see him make a face. I quietly ask him if something is wrong. He hands me his phone to read BM's text:
Could you please put more money into SD20's account? She is having to borrow money from her college friends so she she can go out.

SD22 invites herself on our Xmas trip

SD22 invited herself on our holiday visit to DH's parent's home. We will be gone for 12 days as it takes 2 days of driving to get there. DH didn't invite SD thinking she would need to work during her college break. SD works at a downtown restaurant & lounge. From Xmas to New Years this place hosts many large parties where SD could easily make several hundred dollars in tips a day working a double shift. During the holiday season the downtown area is packed with people shopping, partying and going to the theaters and museums.

Disengaged forever - the turning point in my now happy life

Still Have Hope's picture

My turning point came when skid called me to pick her up in an ice storm after she totaled DH's car. I drove an hour on icy roads only to have her get out of the car on the highway when I refused to drive her to her boyfriends. I told her she could stay the night at my house and I would take her anywhere she wanted the next day when the roads were clear.
