"Maybe I'm too permissive..."

Gee, Loghead, ya think! We had another argument Thursday night about how he lets the two boys get away with everything. He had just come home from rescuing PITA 19 and his best friend from the side of road, stranded with no gas in the car, in 3 degree weather.

PITA, once again, didn't tell us he was coming home. When I left work, Loghead called and told me he was going to rescue them, so at least I had an hour notice... When I arrived home, his girlfriend was already at the house, waiting on him.

So I was mad he came home without telling us, I was mad his visit might change our weekend plans, I was mad I hadn't planned to cook anything, I was mad she was already here.

I guess I should state I have a RAGING case of PMS this week...

So we briefly argued about it, and Loghead had the nerve to say "Maybe I'm too permissive... but I'm glad you are here to balance things out for the kids to have some normalcy."

Fine great. But why is disciplining your kids my task? "WEll, I guess, when I was their age, I always wanted my girlfriend and friends to be welcome in my home, and I never felt like they were, so I want that here."

Great. But does that mean they have to be here ALL THE TIME. And why do I have to be the bad guy?

Which I was this morning. THE GIRLFRIEND STAYED OVER AGAIN LAST NIGHT IN THE GUEST ROOM WITHOUT PERMISSION. So I made them breakfast (I can be somewhat passive aggressive) and woke them up EARLY and made them have breakfast with Loghead and I. Without warning to Loghead, I brought up the fact that she stayed AGAIN WITHOUT PERMISSION. I basically told them I view it as a "Fuck you, we don't care about your rules" and that if it happened again, the minute I discover it, I will be putting her in my car and personally delivering her home.

I said to them all that she must know her parents don't approve of that behavior, or they would stay at her house occasionally, so I don't know what makes them think it is okay here. I told them it will not happen again. I also told PITA that if he comes home for a college weekend unannounced one more time, I will be changing all the locks on the house. I told them both I love it when they are here, and I do because it provides a different energy to the house, but I find their blatant disrespect for our rules maddening. I told them I understand that they really are just kids, and aren't planning in advance, or occassionaly she falls asleep while watching a movie, but it is time for them to grow up.

Loghead just stared at me in disbelief that I would speak the truth. The kids both hung their head in shame and apologized. I repeated again that I would take her home next time...

Later, Loghead also apologized to me for letting it go on for so long. He said I was right to tackle it head on. Well hell! I should have done it months agao, but he kept saying he would do it, and the last time I confronted PITA, he didn't talk to me for a month, and Loghead was silent for days.

Anyway, it's done. I said my piece. And I meant every word I said.

If she's sleeping in the guest room she's not falling asleep by accident and staying over without meaning to. Id consider believing that story if you found them passed out on the couch. Maybe.

You're too nice and it's good you put your foot down. Now I hope your DH backs you up instead of letting them walk all over him.
