Till the cows came home... and the chicken too...

Dammit! They're cute. But I REFUSE to admit that to anyone but you guys. All I keep thinking is WTH was Loghead thinking. He allowed the skids to skip school on Wednesday to go to the cattle sale with Grandpa, on a whim, and came home with 2 calves.

So I've been quietly seething since Wednesday. After Loghead's email response, basically telling me I was crazy to be mad, and then his text that they were an "anniversary present," I gave him a pretty good piece of the silent treatment Friday night. I'd had the day off work, and had cleaned only the things I wanted to clean, and the messes Gibby and I had made. i had piled all the other crap in the house into the back entry way, blocking Loghead's most used exit. I'm a short woman, and the pile was taller than me- mostly consisting of flannel shirts and old jeans where Loghead and the boys had been in and out this week, taking care of the new calves.

I had a monster migraine, and was not in the mood for anymore crap when Loghead came home. He had the chicken with him again. Turns out, a student donated the chicken to his classroom as "class pet." It really is a lovely bird, never seen one like it. And very sweet; she likes to ride up on the skids' shoulders as they walk around the house. they have been told to stay with her in places with lineoleum floors only. If she craps and you are holding her, you clean it. Loghead only brought her home for the weekend, as she now has a cage at school. She can't stay outside with the other chickens because she is a different breed and much smaller. So he's keeping her penned up in the skids' bathtub at night, and brought home a bottle of bleach to clean the tub. So, unless she chirps all day like she did at 6 am, waking me up, she won't be dinner.

I went about my normal Friday night stuff. All in silence. PITA came home from basketball and took care of the calves. Lazy Boye was picked up by Loca Grande from ball and went to her house for the first weekend of youth deer season. Loghead was working out in the garage. Around 8:30, after drifting in and out of the house, many times, he finally stopped in the kitchen and said, GET THIS:

'I was wrong not to tell you. You are so quiet- you must be really mad. I didn't think it was a big deal, it's ot like they're in the house. My dad wanted to do something special with the boys. it's the kinda thing I always wanted him to do with me, and we never did. He bought the calves for PITA, Lazy boye just went along for the ride. Did you know PITA wants to live here, and have a ranch and raise cattle, and go to college and become a teacher and a coach? Dad just wanted to help out. He wants to keep the farm in the family... Maybe he'll give it to PITA someday. They plan to fatten them up and sell them. I'm sorry you felt like you weren't included."

Well, pick me up off the floor! I got my apology and my explanation and a nice fact abotu PITA, all rolled into one!

With tears in my eyes, I kissed his cheek and told him all I wanted was an apology and an explanation.

I also got my revenge later... My FIL came over to see that PITA was properly administering the calves' medicine. The men sat around the kitchen table, BSing with one another. It turns out when they bought the blasted things on Wednesday, they just put them in the back of the truck and brought them home. And I don't mean the truck bed, i mean the inside backseat of the truck. Well, one of them had a little accident of the wet variety, and PITA can't figure out how to get rid of the smell. And the farm truck is pretty much his only transportation until he earns enough money to buy his own, so he is stuck with the smell or a large cleaning bill. }:)
