I'm back from the hospital

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to give a quick update. I came home from detox yesterday Wow, what an experience that was. So many interesting stories and such an eye opening experience. I am very happy that I went. Last night was the hardest when I was home and the normal routines were in place without any chardonnay involved. Now, I am just trying to work on my after care plans and deal with my pain in the ass boss, HR and insurance. I am struggling not to freak out dealing with the red tape that I feel ill-equipped to handle in this state. But I am doing it. And FDH has been incredibly supportive, loving and helpful.

I am sure I will share more later. Just trying to readjust right now.

Thank you for all the kind words of love and support.

Anne

Yup. I was just in the shower and said "OK, you almost made it through today. Night time is the hardest since you don't drink during the day... so one more night!" Tomorrow will be one full week. If you'd asked me a month ago if I could go an entire week without anything to drink at all, I would've looked at you like you were speaking another language. Now, I know I can at least get through one day at a time.

WB Anne (((HUGS))) been thinking about you and I'm very proud of you. You are strong, hopefully feeling healthier, brave, and just take things one day at a time. Great that your FDH is incredibly supportive of you, sure will help you make it through. Congratulations on your road to recovery and look forward to hearing more from you. You can do it.. Wink

Funny you say that. When I was in the facility, the prayer was said every morning and evening in our meetings. Yesterday, FDH called me related to something about the skids and BM being a jerk. Somewhere in my response I said something straight out of the prayer like "Basically, we can't control her actions, the only thing we can control is what we do" And really, it is about enjoying the good. And if there is NO good in the situation or the bad outweighs the good, as we see in some cases here, then you need to change the circumstances. I think we sometimes get so bogged down in negative feelings that we start to see everything in our homes as negative. And for many of us, that's simply not true. We just lose sight of the good.

I think at rehab they said something like "The higher your expectations of others, the lower your threshold is for disappointment." That really struck a nerve related to step-parenting and what I thought our lives would be like versus how they are.

Oh definitely. As soon as I get adjusted to my new dose of anti-depressants (which make me VERY sleepy), I will start exercising. And I am going out right now to find a small CD player so I can use some of my many meditation CDs I've acquired over the years that have sat dormant for a while. Definitely trying to replace bad behavior with good to get the same results-- relaxation and peace. And I have a feeling that those 10 huge boxes of family photos will finally get scanned and indexed as I've been promising to do forever! Smile

Also, attending evening AA meetings about the time I would normally be pouring my first glass of wine.
