Need some financial advice.

Advice, and explanations please. If you leave advice, please explain why you are suggesting the course of action you are.

My husband had some very bad luck with an employment opportunity recently. He left his job for a better job, and the better job fell through.

He's been unemployed for about 2 months now, and has been diligently looking for work.

I've been paying his child support. He hasn't asked, I've just been doing it. I don't want BM to have to do without if I can help it, and I don't want CSS to start hounding us and add to our stress.

Jesus Camp

At the advisement of someone I work with, I watched the trailer for this documentary.

It freaks me out a little bit, that someday SS5 might be one of those kids. :O

Letter to BM (that I actually sent)

myspoonistoobig's picture

BM asked how we've been getting SS to skype with her, so I told her, and she seemed pretty upset. She didn't try and rip me a new one the way she would've if DH had told her, but she was very short after that.

So, I decided to send her an e-mail explaining why we'd chosen to do with skype time what we've done, and now I've posted it here for your viewing pleasure.

Dear BM,

A sharing moment (stepfamilies with varying religious views)

myspoonistoobig's picture

So last night I was on my way to a New Moon ritual, and SS was playing in the court yard. I told him I was heading out, and that I'd be back in a few hours.

"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to my witch meeting."
"With pretend witches?"
"No honey, with real ones."

....

"There are real witches?"
"Yep."
"How do you know?"
"Because I am one."
"You're a witch!?"
"Yep."
"But,..."
"You can ask me all about it later kiddo, right now I've got to go."

Cute things SS5 has done/said while he's been here

Mostly we bitch, but I'd be doing SS a disservice if I didn't share some moments where he made me smile. So here ya go. Remember, he's only 5, which makes some of these extra adorable.

REGARDING THE WALLPAPERING JOB I DID TO RESURFACE HIS DRESSER
"Daddy! DD22mo is trying to rip the paper off my dresser!"
"Well it's okay kiddo, it won't hurt her."
"But I LIKE the paper on it!"

Oops... related to this month's issue of SM mag.

myspoonistoobig's picture

So BM and I have been cheerful and chatty and pretending like I'm not also hearing about and assisting my DH with their less cheerful conversations.

I sent her this sweet letter that was in this month's issue of SM magazine from a SM to a BM with whom she doesn't have a good relationship but always wanted one. Told BM that it made me a little teary and I thought I'd share it with her.

She responds. "Why?"

So now I feel stupid. I'm sure she's somehow offended but I'm not sure why. Why do I even bother? Seriously, what the fuck is my deal?

This child makes me ghetto

... in my head

At first, it's just me thinking "Look kid, I know what you're doing, and it won't work."

Now, it's like this...

"Mimi, what if I don't like my tamale?"

"If you try it, and you don't like it, you can have an apple."

"Mimi, my apple tastes funny, can I have a cheese stick?"

NO MOTHERFUCKER! YOU CAN GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP! WANNA WHINE ABOUT HOW I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU! FINE! GO AHEAD AND THINK THAT WHILE YOU LIE IN BED HUNGRY YOU LITTLE ASSHOLE!

"No SS, you may not have a cheese stick."

New Mantra

Your stepchildren are not your children. You are not responsible for the kind of people they are or the kind of people they will become.

From that online magazine for stepmoms.

Indigo children - for overworked mom

myspoonistoobig's picture

Didn't want to hijack the thread, but her DH's stupid response to his son's growing behavioral issues reminded me of a scary parenting fad going around.

A couple of my more extreme pagan friends believe this of their problem children. I don't talk about it much, because it's none of my business how they parent, or don't.

But I gotta say, this is some scary stuff. Google Indigo Children, and see the horror for yourself.

And yes, a lot of people actually believe this. I know some of them.

*facepalm*
