What a surprise - the inlaws stood us up again

Jcksjj's picture

Short background- the inlaws stood us up for YDS first birthday a couple weeks ago because SD wasnt here and they only wanted to come up to celebrate SDs birthday later in the week. There was some back and forth on when they would come up and they finally agreed to come up today (when SD isnt here). FIL messaged DH this a little bit ago:

FIL: sorry its last minute but a buddy and I are headed to _____. Do you want to come with?

DH: I'm in _____right now. You guys arent coming up tonight?

FIL: Sorry didnt know we were still on for tonight, didnt hear back from you. Would next weekend work?

First of all, that's a lie that he didnt hear back. DH suggested this weekend, FIL eventually said Saturday would work, and DH said okay. They're still fighting to come up only when SD is here.

Suggestions on replies? Obviously we arent giving in, but what would be best to say?

There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior.  Parity is my step-parent religion, ESPECIALLY concerning gift occasions.

You need to get on top of this before the boys are old enough to know what's going on. I would cut them off and see them the bare minimum for holidays.

"Well, I guess you lost your opportunity to visit then. Have fun with your buddy."

And then never invite them over again, or take them up on any offers to visit.

Yes, I love this!  "Sorry we have rescheduled multiple times for you, clearly you don't care to see the boys or care about their bdays, we will no longer invite you in the future"...

WTF?!?! This text exchange is really infuriating!  Of course they wanted to try again for "next weekend" when SD would be there!  Disgusting excuse for grandparents.

I sure wish someone could tell me that. Then I wouldn't have to deal with all of DHs "but I dont get why they would do that" when he doesnt want to accept that they're acting like a holes.
