New Site Activity Feed

Admin's picture

In an effort to increase engagement on the site, and to make it easier for logged in users to see when new activity occurs on the site, we've implement an initial version of our site activity feed.  You must be logged in to see the feed on the home page.  Once you login and navigate to the home page, you'll see an activity feed that shows all blog and forum posts, as well as comments.

Groundhog Day

I thought I'd take a moment to address the rumor mill, and remind users that your continued interaction with this site conveys your acceptance of our terms and conditions of use (TOU). If you neglected to pay attention to them while signing up or otherwise missed them, feel free to become re-acquainted with them here: https://www.steptalk.org/terms . The terms of use are there to define the boundaries users are expected to stay within when they interact with this site and its users.

Recent Site Abuse

StepTalk Users,

The StepTalk staff has been receiving an increasing number of complaints from users regarding blatant violations of our Terms of Use by other users of this site, including but not limited to harmful, threatening, hateful, and otherwise objectionable behavior and general abuse of this site and its users.

Sorry for the Downtime

Admin's picture

As you undoubtedly noticed, StepTalk.org was down for a short while. Our hosting provider had to reboot our servers to fix some security vulnerabilities and apparently our web server didn't come back online as cleanly as it should have. We've fixed the issues and everything should be back to normal.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

SPAM, Advertising, Etc.

Admin's picture

We're constantly battling SPAM, almost on a daily basis, but there just isn't any 100% reliable solution to preventing SPAM. Some will get through, and we'll continue to clean it up. Some days are heavier than others. Many of our spammers are actual humans, which we will never really be able to prevent. I'll be implementing another measure soon to see if it will have any affect on reducing SPAM.

Multiple Accounts Not Allowed

Admin's picture

I'd like to clarify my statement regarding our Terms of Use (ToU) and members having multiple accounts. I didn't make it clear that the motivation behind this post is that several ex-members who had their accounts disabled for violating our ToU chose to ignore that we revoked their access to this site by creating new accounts on the site.

Privacy

Many members have recently come to me with concerns regarding their privacy on StepTalk. They're worried that their family, or their spouse's ex, will somehow find out about this site, their blog, etc. They're worried about other members on this site having the ability to inform their family (or spouses ex) about this site, etc.

I've just added a statement regarding member privacy to our Frequently Asked Questions page to address this issue. Please read what I've posted and feel free to comment on this post with any questions you may still have.

It's Over, or soon will be.

Hopefully the problems that have plagued our site and wasted too much of my time have been taken care of.

For those that I've blocked (and those that I will eventually also block), if you think you can get away with abusing our site and wasting my time, you're wrong. We see when you post inflammatory posts on the site and then delete them soon after. Duh! We do keep logs, for security reason, for just this type of abuse of the site.
