SS22 Accepted the Offer of Employment

BettyRay's picture

SS22 decided to take the job. He showed DH and I the benefits package and it is nice. He also gets 3 weeks of vacation. The 3rd week is the week between Christmas and New Year's - The business is closed for that week.

SS22 is not excited about it at all - I don't get him.

He'll end his internship on 5/24/2019 and then have a week off befor starting the new job.

Now, you have to get him out of your house ASAP. Given his poor attitude, he may not last long at that job. Get him launched while he has the income to get his own place.

DH and I both have a list of chores for him to do, in addition to paying rent beginning June 1.

Would be nice if his dad could be happy for him.

It's SS22 who isn't happy about it, SS22 thinks he should be making what his friends are getting. What SS22 doesn't understand is that his GPA is mediocre, which means he's not the top dog.

That's a good start up package.

How long before he quits because it's too hard?

BettyRay's picture

That's my guess. SS22 will be crawling back - adulting is so hard.

Don't give him that option and don't charge him for rent...charge him for the cost of changing the locks.

If I got 3 weeks of vacation I would be jumping for joy... I get like 6 hours a month... Literally. So it's SLOW to build up, and you take one day and just lost what took you a month and a half to save up.

He should be thrilled! I don't understand!

When I started with this company I earned 7 hours of vacation a month.

Yay!! He should be established in his NEW apartment before he starts so it doesn't interfere with his new job.

Totally Agree!

Is there a probation period? I don’t hesitate to fire lazy workers within that early period. If they’re not excited about the job and don’t want to work hard, it becomes obvious pretty quickly.

if its a decent company for his attitude. If its a gov't job or a poorly run org they'll keep him and promote him

BettyRay's picture

There are no PEs (professional engineers) on staff. Which was my "lighbulb moment". In order to get a PE certification SS22 has to work 3 years under an engineer who is PE certified. I can see SS22 giving this as an excuse for quitting. Or staying as they may promote him quickly and make it hard for him to leave, SS22 is money hungry.

That's why you need to boot him ASAP and let him know that if this job falls through he's not landing at your house.
