WWYD?

I found out that SS (17) is smoking pot. I can’t say anything because SS will lie his way out of it and it will look like I am just picking on SS. I also can’t say anything because the info came from my daughter (she found out by accident) and she does not want to be in the middle of SS/DH’s crap.

How do I get him busted and how will this affect his entering the military in 6 months? I thought his recruiter was supposed to random drug test him, but that has not happened yet. What happens if they test him and he fails the drug test? My whole life is revolving around this kid going into the military in 6 months!!!

Normally I would not get involved, but I found out he is driving and doing this. Just F ing great.

I think it depends on what branch he's going into...I know my little brother smoked (a lot) of pot before joining the Navy. And he had a paraphenalia charge on his record as well. As long as you can pass a drug test when they do your testing to leave (for basic), he'll be fine. And they make these kits now, so he wouldn't even have to quit smoking...just drink a drink and you pee fine. Slightly embarrassed that I know this.... :O Not that he should be doing it...I'm not condoning it at all, but just wanted to lessen your fears about him not being able to go!

Before you even bother, I think you'd better figure out if anybody but you is going to care enough to do anything about this. I say that because DH found out that SD17 was smoking marijuana and did: NOTHING. Yep, that's right. BM found out via a text on SD17's phone (I didn't even know she checked them) and SD17 admitted it, then claimed she was feeling suicidal and got herself a 72-hour psych hold. Everyone was so "worried" about her they promptly forgot to do anything about the original problem: using marijuana. So before you stick your neck out, is it even going to gain anything?

HS,
Yes, I would most definitely want DH to tell me about my daughter. BUT… DH and I are very different parents. He gets VERY defensive about SS if ANYONE says anything about him. It is never SS fault and SS is always just in the wrong place at the wrong time..blablabla.

Foxie,
I know!! Ugh! I am so sick of this little shit always being in the middle of something and DH stuffing his head in the sand.

Renee,
I don’t think DH would go for a home test. It may prove his little angel is not such a little angel at all.

Kshep,
I will probably leave my husband if SS does not go into the military and tries to stay with us after HS graduation. (If that even happens!) Just can’t take it much longer.

Elizabeth,
EXACTLY!! This has actually happened a few of the times SS has been in trouble for horrible things…he will start claiming that he MUST go to a shrink, because of his “feelings” so DH and BM freak out with worry and nothing happens about what actually brought them to the shrink. Bleck!

smtotheloveofmylife,
Yea, I don’t think it is a huge deal sometime here.

Mommy2tomany,
DH would not go for a home test.

But if you knew.. and something terrible happened like a car accident, how would you feel?

This has run through my mind more than you know. I think I am just going to tell DH that I smelled pot on SS and let him take it from there. It will be on him then. I wonder if the recruiter does a test now (6 months before he goes in) will it keep him out of the military?

I can't/won't involve my DD. I am tired of MY kids always having to put up with this type of nonsense from this kid.

Bring home a drug test from the pharmacy, hand it to your DH and tell him to have his kid pee in the cup. That gets DH involved and he can ride SS's ass until he enlists. They WILL test him at MEPS and he will not get in the service if he tests positive.

Fortunately my kid has no interest in any recreational substances. If they tested for Video Game Addiction we would be screwed.

Good luck.

There's no way at all you can get your H on board with the home test? I know our high school would give them to parents for a small cost. They don't cost too much at the pharmacy either for just a pot test (additional substances = more expensive test).

Not even if all the kids were tested?
