How hard is it to get kicked out of the military?

Willow2010's picture

UGH!! Not to get into too much detail, but found out that SS was put on a class C disciplinary report (whatever that is) and is now confined to his ship until they get back to the states. That means for the next four-months he cannot get off the ship at ANY port they dock at for the next 4-5 months.

And of course the story we got was so stupid that I really have no idea why he got in trouble. Apparently something happened that last time they were at a port. But….It certainly did not seem like an offence that would have this severe of a punishment.

And of course, DH feels bad for SS since he will miss out on all of the ports for the next several months.

SS is such a dumb butt. He had the opportunity to see places that most of us only ever dream of. Now he has to sit on the ship every time, while all the others get to go out for the day.

Right now, I am just thanking my lucky stars that he has not got kicked out of the military yet!! I don’t’ know what I will do if that happens!! ARRRGGG!

He changed it to make himself look like the victim of unfair treatment.

This is the life story of SS. And BM and DH lap it up. I am sure DH knows he is also lying, it is what the kid does. But DH will never admit it.

Right now, it's not difficult at all to get kicked out. Military officials are *looking* for reasons to get rid of people.

That being said, the military is good about the punishment fitting the crime, and unless it was a severe offense, first offenses typically will only get you a counseling statement (a type of written warning).

We are a military family. Sevaral family members that served in the Navy (career military) including my Uncle who was the "Brig Warden" for many years. It takes a pretty severe offense to be confined to your ship for that long. Most of the "brig prisoners" were confined to the brig for a night while they sober up, or cool off. Most of them sailor fights etc. And then they would get their port priveledges suspended for a week or two. 5 months is a long time. I think SS is not telling you the entire truth there...

Thanks all! I do assume he told DH a bogus story. And I really hope that this will make SS think befoe he acts now. But I doubt it. ugh

And Sue...I have not clue what I am going to do if SS gets kicked out. I know he is going to want to live with us while he "gets his life straight". I don't want that, but DH will think it is wrong to not let SS live with us, while my son does live with us.

BUUUT...my son works full time and goes to college full time and we never see him and he causes NO trouble. SS is the polar opposite of my son. He does not like to work and he barely graduated high school so he can't go to college.

aaaaannnnnnndddddddd............
if he gets kicked out he will have a dishonorable discharge... or at the very least a standard (read: NOT honorable) discharge. And how many places do you think will hire him when he has to write down that he has anything BUT an honorable discharge?

Sorry Willow, this is not looking good.

Navy has weird punishment rules. I remember being in Cuba (at GITMO) and seeing Navy people wearing arm bands that meant "non judicial punishment" and several did additional duties (KP) in the chow halls.

We have a saying now that it is a "one mistake Air Force". The Air Force met its recruiting goals for the year last July and is only taking top tier recruits. That said, I would imagine that the Navy has similar, but less strict criteria, for its members.
