Because I'm about to lose my you-know-what.

FIL had pushed and pushed and pushed his DUI / Child endangerment charges out as long as humanly possible. Earlier this month, he has a court date, because I'm assuming he passed up on a plea deal, and walks away with: 5 weekends in jail, followed by 16 weeks of ankle monitoring, on top of losing his license for a year and legal fees.

This weekend was to be his first weekend. This evening, I nonchalantly ask DH if he has spoken with his mom. And, oh yes, he has! DH states that his dad has filed an effing appeal, so no, he's not doing his first weekend in county jail.

I'm like, "what?!"

Seriously, who in the ever-living eff gets into a car accident, while drowsy on a cocktail of pain meds (and possibly Ambien and Ritalin) with skid in the backseat, is arrested on the spot, has blood drawn, is charged, AND then fights it to the bitter end to get off?

I swear, as if I wasn't already indifferent to begin with, with my inlaws, all of this behavior on FIL's part, trying to avoid any accountability and consequences, really takes the cake.

And DH has the audacity to even look at me all confuzzled like, as if I have a third eye, when I state there is NO WAY I will leave my toddlers alone with him.

Seriously, is it me? Or am I totally in the right to feel his dad is squirrelly AF.

That is very scary that FIL was willing to endanger SS under the influence and I agree with you for not wanting your own children to be alone with him.

Sorry, I didn't clarify - SD.

This DUI happened in June - last year.

FIL's first excuse was that he was tired that morning. Well, yeah. He takes Ambien at night. Of course he's going to still be drowsy. And that's the thing. You drive under a controlled substance, you're rolling the dice in regards to being a hazard on the road. Not only to himself and SD, but other people as well. But, my inlaws are too wrapped up in their own self-righteous BS to look at it from that angle.

Now, his (their) excuse is that he had a bad lawyer and/or incompetent judge.

Oh, and to my knowledge, they still haven't told BM that her own freaking child was in a car accident. On the flip side it angers me beyond belief that DH hasn't said anything to BM either. They all enable one another.

I just can't with these people. Because in the past when I've tried to be the voice of reason and bring everyone back to realityville, I'm called an *%#hole (behind my back, lol) and accused of ruining their family, Christmas, etc...

You are ABSOLUTELY right! Don't doubt yourself. Stick to your 'common sense ' guns. Think of the '"what if?" scenario, dont leave things up to date or chance.

Thanks!

I intend to. I already know it's not going to go over well. Because it will make them look bad. All the eyerolls.
