O/T Me learning to drive a stick. A sight to see! LMAO

DH and I own Toyota's. It's all DH will drive. I have a large lifted SUV. DH has a lifted pick up with muddin' tires.

My baby(my truck) is having severe alignment issues and needs more than an alignment. Got a quote yesterday from a trusted body shop for nearly $700.00..After the Toyota dealership basically told me to eff off. I call DH and tell him about the dealership and the estimate and first thing he says is "Well..you MUST learn to drive my truck. No more waiting. You have no other options!!!!" Yes..we know DH. Ugh.

He tells me I'm getting a crash course and will be driving around the stick by Monday. :jawdrop: I have driven it in a parking lot a few times lol I CAN NOT reverse or do HILLS.

It's all in my head, I know. Clutch, brake, gas, less clutch. I drove a few miles yesterday evening. Killed it a few times at a couple intersections lmfao Got "I hate you" stares from pissy women driving their fancy cars. Got head nods and smiles from men in their trucks watching me learn. Also got a smile from a woman driving a huge rig herself.

My nerves were shot, DH tells me to stop, then turn left. I stop and turn right because I was a nervous wreck. I shouldn't have gone RIGHT because of a GIANT HILL!!! I panic and tell DH "omg I must turn around. omg let me out. AHHHHHHHH "

I get to the top of the hill and I'm good. I'm waiting for traffic and I'm thinking "Ok, Laremare, you got this...as long as no one is behind you" ......I want to go then see I have FOUR cars behind me on this hill that was completely empty 2 minutes ago. I panic. "OMG DH i'm gonna roll back! I can't do this! DHHHHHH! I'm gonna hit her. I'm gonna roll! DHHHHH Help!! DH DRIVE!! " DH is screaming "GAS GAS GAS GO GO GO..You got it lamare, youre good, youre not gonna roll, I trust you."

I panic and try to go. Truck revs up RPMs and dies. I try again and roll a bit and kill it. I turn it on and pull the E brake and jump out. DH crawls over and the woman behind me is shaking her snobby head and the guy behind her is grinning and giggling. DH is irritated. I'm irritated and mad at myself. I drive us safely home. DH tells me I did great. No, not really, but thanks Babe lol

Lots of practice. Worst thing of all? Hearing Thump Thump Thump in the back of the cab..The thumping is poor DD7 and DS4 bonking their heads on the back window as I make the truck jump lol My little troopers were rooting for me the entire time lol

Stick is all I will drive! I haven't had an automatic transmission vehicle since I was 20 and I'm 46 years old. Right now I drive a six-speed. It actually has shorter gears and it's harder 2 take off with but it's a little speed demon! My DH is an over the road truck driver so I can actually drive a 13 speed tractor trailer. Once you realize you've got all that power and you're the one controlling it you won't be as afraid, and trust me you'll have a lot of fun driving a stick. It's a lot more entertaining and a lot easier in snow and in bad weather than an automatic is, and dudes are flirting with me all the time lol

Dh says the same. He says once I learn Im gonna love the power. He says ill have more control as well.

You'll get the hang of it and you'll be glad you learned. Everyone should know how to drive a stick, just in case.

I agree 100%. I wish I would have learned a while ago. Instead im taking crash corses all weekend yay :O

DH made me stop on a decent hill in our neighborhood. He told me not to stop completely and feel the clutch, love the clutch(lol) and learn to catch it and feather it so the clutch holds me on the hill without braking. That was fun, but oh so hard

I really miss driving a stick. That rolling backwards on a hill is a killer for everybody. I think the first time I tried it (as a teenager) I had cars backed up for a mile and missed something like three stoplight cycles. Crying, my dad impatient as hell, horns honking. I still want to curl up into a ball when I think about it. (My dad taught me how to make a gin and tonic that evening--for him, of course.)

Practice your inner control freak and you will get this!

LOL it's humiliating..but I must focus and think "eff them!" I've seen people learning and I have been oh so patient with them(other drivers) I wish some would be more patient with me. DH said hes gonna get a "Student Driver" sign lol

I feel your pain. When DH taught me to drive stick (his jeep) it was clutch shift swear kill the jeep clutch swear shift swear kill it swear some more. But I got the hang of it in no time. Now I actually enjoy driving the jeep.

lol I realllllllly am looking forward to driving my DH's truck. I will eventually be proficient in both stick and automatic and that will broaden future truck choices Biggrin Biggrin

DH tried to teach me several times, but he always made me nervous & gave me too many directions. I finally borrowed his car & rode around late at night my myself till i got the hang of it.

I've been driving a stick since 2002 - my first was a 2000 Ford Ranger than I bought while living in Monterey CA.

I did not know how to drive it at that time. I sure learned quick! You will have this DOWN easy.

You know how you have to stop and show ID at the gate of a military post, right? Every single darn gate at the Presidio of Monterey faces uphill. I stalled that truck EVERY time I went through the gate for a month or two. (the only time I stalled after the first week, I swear) The gate guards got a giggle, and I learned quicker.
