Beyond Ridiculous

Okay, so some people know that SS12 has arachnophobia. Whatever, lots of people do. I don't love spiders myself, but I recognize the value they have in the system overall. So, every time the skids are over, SS12 makes DH check his room for spiders before he goes to bed. Fine. Whatever. Last night, both skids refused to go to bed at a decent hour, but it was a Friday night, they're both older, so I don't really care much about it when it's a weekend, my parents let us stay up late on weekends too when we were that age. DH and I decided to go to bed since it had been a long week for both of us, and we were tired. I told him before we went to sleep, "Honey, how much do you want to bet that when SS12 is ready to go to bed, he comes in and makes you check for spiders?" He acknowledged that I was definitely right, and that it would also not happen while we were still awake. I was hoping it would happen sometime around 12:30, because we wouldn't have been sleeping for long, and that would've been still a halfway decent hour in my mind for a 12 year old to go to sleep, you know, on a weekend. 3:30 in the morning, DH wakes up because he has to go to the bathroom, and the lights in the basement are STILL ON. So he goes downstairs and finds SS12 still awake, watching TV. He told him to go to bed IMMEDIATELY, then turned off the lights, and came back upstairs to go to the bathroom and go back to bed. About 15 minutes later, DH hears SS12 accidentally walk into the door of the dog kennel, and he JUMPS up out of bed and says, "You'd better get into bed RIGHT NOW. This is RIDICULOUS." Sure enough, SS12 says, "There's a spider in my room! You need to go and get it!" DH was straight up like, "No, now go to BED!" This carried on for about 5 minutes before SS12 went to bed. It was nearly 4 a.m. by this time. Guess he won't be allowed to stay up late anymore if he can't get it together with the spider thing. He'll definitely fight going to bed tonight because it is now 1:15 p.m. and he is just waking up, so he definitely won't be tired by, like, 10:00.

MY SD has all sorts of fears that she's been way too babied about IMO. Spiders too of course. There was a daddy long leg in our shower and she just got out and got dressed and didn't say anything, left the water running. I was pissed. She decided she didn't like y kids Roddy donkey and it had to be taken outside, she didn't like the Jack and Sally dolls their granda sent them and they had to be put away, just silly to me to allow her to have all these "rules". I am just noot a patient person when it comes to silly fears I guess.
