OT - Eff Off Friday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Only one today, STalkers.

Eff off to saying goodbye.

At the end of life, what really matters is not what we bought, but what we built; not what we got, but what we shared; not our competence, but our character; and not our success, but our significance. Live a life that matters. Live a life of love.

~Author Unknown

Grandma, you lived over 100 years. I cannot begin to fathom what it was like to live through a century of change, multiple wars, and the advances of technology and medicine. You devoted your life to caring for people and were working (nurse) into your 70s before they deemed you too old. Well, you certainly showed them by enjoying almost four decades of retirement. You were a beautiful lady, inside and out. To know you was to love you.

I pray for strength and hope I don't disappoint you at your memorial services. Tomorrow will start without you.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me – by David M. Romano
When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
Are filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We didn’t get to say
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
And each time you think of me
I know you’ll miss me too
But when tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
And said my place was ready
In Heaven far above
And that I’d have to leave behind
All those I dearly love
But when I walked through Heaven’s gate
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
From His great golden throne
He said this is eternity
And all I promised you
Today your life on earth is past
But here it starts anew
I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And since each day’s the same way
There’s no longing for the past
So when tomorrow starts without me
Don’t think we’re far apart
For every time you think of me
I’m right here in your heart.

Hug your loved ones. You never know when it will be the last time.

Huge transatlantic hugs to you, Aniki. Grandmothers are a gift from nature and will always be with you in your heart.

So sorry for your loss.

JRI's picture

I'm sorry for your loss.  I still miss mine but she lives in my heart and mind, like yours will.

Thank you, JRI. My mind is whirling with memories, but my heart aches right now.

So sorry, Ani. I lost a friend this week, gone too soon, and it struck me that even normal, mundane things somehow feel different. Not better, not worse, but I'm just aware of the extra space in my life. Sounds like your granny has left a big, big space for you. Fill it with joy and love and warmth.

Eff off to goodbyes, indeed.

Thanks, Merry. I'm kicking myself for not sending her daisies last week. She seemed to be doing better...

Much love to you. So sorry for your loss, Aniki. I still miss my Grandma. When people tell me I remind them of her, I am honored. She was an expert marksman, painter, fisherman, gardener and a baker. An odd combo, and I loved that about her! She didn't conform to what people thought she should be .

Well Grandma, I just bought my first 9mm handgun, and my husband is so jealous that I won't let him touch it. LOL. I am going to the shooting range next week. My art abilities are nonexistent, but I do make a fine chocolate chip cookie!

Thank you, Shieldmaiden. I should aspire to be more like Grandma. Her patience was endless; just an ounce of it would be great...

What a beautiful poem , brought tears to my eyes.

Sorry about your grandma , its hard. No matter what age you lose a loved one, its always dang difficult.

I too just lost a dear friend, and this poem hit hard.

Aniki remember all the love you shared with your grandma. That will always be there.

Thank you, Stepdrama2020.

Ironically, I gave that poem to a friend who lost his mother just a few months ago. I'll be reading it often.

I am so sorry about your grandmother.  You were blessed by her presence in your life, no doubt.  I know there's nothing anyone can say or do to make it better, I would if I could, but we're here for you.  You'll always have her there with you in your heart and mind.

Thanks, PetSpoiler. Very blessed indeed. And I'm doubly blessed to have my STalk family just a keyboard away.

I'm sorry for your loss, Aniki. It's especially difficult to lose someone who has been a touchstone for your entire life. ((hugs))
