OT - Eff Off Friday/Forn Friday
Happy Friday, STalkers! It's been a hot minute since we've had an Eff Off Friday. Definitely overdue!
Eff off to:
- King Pita. KP, when you schedule Leave, please BE ON LEAVE. It's called "leave" for a reason. Not only do you need a break, but we need a break from you. Do not email us. Do not bloody well call us. 5:57AM and you're calling me for BS that I have handled. Took longer to have an annoying pre-coffee conversation with you than it did for me to handle the issue. Eff off back to Leave!
- Joy-zy Boy. While it's nice to be appreciated and sought after for my knowledge, after one instructional session, Joy-zy Boy seems to think we're now besties and texts me multiple times a week that he needs to talk to me about something. This week has reached a new level where he cannot email or text me because he doesn't trust them and needs to have "a brief conversation" with me about something "important". Blech. I have meetings every single day with little time in between. I told him I was available today from 9-9:30am. "That's not long enough." What.The.Hell. 30 minutes is not long enough for a BRIEF conversation? Then you have nothing important to say.
Forn Friday
Forn Friday is 'food' and 'p0rn' combined.
This is Easter weekend (for those who celebrate). Family tradition for us since childhood has always been an Easter ham. DH's family baked it with pineapple rings and cherries while my family baked it with a brown sugar glaze. But ham was not the part of dinner I looked forward to... pickled eggs are at the top of my list. Deep red-pink on the outside, beautifully rose-colored on the inside, with the spiciness of clove in the homemade red brine... Nom nom nom! What's your favorite Easter dish or tradition?
Wishing you a happy, healthy, and stress-free Easter weekend!

Eff off to Spring with hail
Eff off to Spring with hail and tornados and flooding.
Eff off to all the bugs. We had to spray for ants and wasps already!!
I have never seen pickled eggs like that. The only ones I ever saw are clear liquid and rubbery as a tire. *bad* My favorite thing is the pork 'n beans. My family slices up orange and yellow bell peppers in strips and bake for 45 minutes. I'm sure it sounds strange but is so good!!
Happy Easter Aniki!!
Pickled eggs are from my Mom
Pickled eggs are from my Mom's side of the family and she made them every year until she was too sick to do so. One of my sisters (who lives close) took up the tradition. I'm picking up our eggs tomorrow. *yahoo*
Bell peppers in beans - I'll have to give that a try. Sounds tasty.
Happy Easter, wolflady!
I discovered pickled eggs
I discovered pickled eggs when, as a teen, I babysat for a neighbour. I was told that there was a jar in the kitchen beside my sandwiches. I had never tasted them before but loved them. They were made with malt vinegar.
Ours are made with cider
Ours are made with cider vinegar, salt, sugar, beet juice, cinnamon, and cloves. I'm eating one right now. *yahoo*
Ooh, I like the sound of that
Ooh, I like the sound of that!
Care to share the recipe or is it a family secret?
Around here, Easter means
Around here, Easter means lamb. Local lamb goes to high pastures in the hot months and feeds off of thyme, rosemary, savory, etc. (basically fresh herbs de Provence) all year round. I do roast leg of lamb with tons of thyme and garlic from the garden accompanied by green beans with butter, parsley and garlic. I'm toying with the idea of adding sage and onion Yorkshire puddings. Dessert will be creme brulee.
I used to host Easter for all the ILs until I got sick of them a few years back.
That sounds AMAZING! Where's
That sounds AMAZING! Where's the drool emoji???
Creme brulee is one of my favorite desserts. <3
Thank you and even worse, a
Thank you and even worse, a friend told me that he'd bring strawberries from his garden tomorrow so I'd have the time to drench them in lime juice and vanilla sugar (makes a fabulous juice) and make meringues from the whites left over from the creme brulee so I can crush them and sprinkle them on the strawberries.
And I don't care for desserts... but the lamb won't last long!

Eff 0ff
Eff 0ff to mental illness. Over the past almost year my incredible kid (SS-32) had been Dx'd with both mental and behavioral conditions. A struggle for me, the dad who is not a fan of the pseudo science practicioners. The good news is that his team includes his PCP, his Therapist, and an MD Psychiatrist. We do not have a lot of detail but the root cause is apparently PTSD caused by sexual abuse that followed years long grooming and targeting by multiple Sr military leaders. At this point it is unlikely that he will successfully complete the 5yrs 11mos and 3wks until he reaches full benefit level retirement. Just my guestimate. Second best would be a full medical retirement with full VA disability. There are ongoing investigations and potential trials unfolding. His complaint has uncovered multiple victims. We are very proud of him for having the courage to drive accountability and for advocating for himself. My fear is that how we parented may be part of the problem. I know, feelings. But, as a parent I want to fix it and I want to understand what I may have done to contribute to his mental and behavioral health issues. I hope I did not break my kid.
On a happy note. We did an epic road trip to spend a long weekend with my mom and dad in the middle of nowhere of Big Bend. As usual, the 4 of us had wonderful adventures together.
F0rn:
No major mom kitchen wizardry Easter feast this year. I am happy about this. We all have tried for years to get mom to step back and enjoy the holidays rather than being the hostess with the mostest on every detail. So, before my bride and I hit the road at 0Dark:30 in the mording on Easter sunday we had ham and cheddar role ups. My mom... rather than just buying them premade bought gourmet cheddar, some insane limited addition designer ham, cut the cheese into finger long pieces and wrapped them in melt in your mouth ham. To get the egg part of Easter in, DW made her no one will eat anyone elses deviled eggs. That was our Easter feast in the 30mins before DW and I hit the road for 1050 miles and 17yrs of drive time, fuel and lunch stops.
We saw many beautiful things. Incredible blooming desert plants, birds, antelope, deer, coyotes, desert hares, massive ravens and a ton of butterflies and bees swarming the countless blooming ocotillos, cactuses, and desert sage. And... some memorable adventures.
Happy belated Easter everyone.
