Attended SS13's Parent Teacher conference this morning

And, as I've known was the case, SS has been goofing around in class, not doing work, etc.

He's in 7th grade at a very small school. They send behavior reports home weekly, but they are filled out by his main teacher - who's class he does well in. Over the past few months, SS has been on increased lock down because of bits and pieces getting back to us on work that's not getting done.

His other main teacher mentioned that he should continue in the summer and go to tutoring or a structured learning program to continue to bring him up to grade level in his reading and writing. Consider it done! When he's with me this summer (two weeks on/off with BM), instead of hanging with me and the kids, I'll now have an excuse to drop him off at the tutoring center, library, etc Smile

We're dealing with the same stuff with SS14, who's also in 7th grade. He doesn't do homework, plays around in class instead of getting in'class assignments done, doesn't study for tests and quizzes, doesn't turn in long-term projects, is rarely prepared for gym.... The list goes on.

As of the last marking period, he failed 4 of his classes for the quarter and is on track to fail 3 of those for the year. We'd love for him to go to summer school rather than be held back, as he's already been held back one year. Then again, the schools will push anyone through summer school so they keep up their numbers of passing students. The kid's pretty much screwed, really.

We've tried everything to get this kid to step up, but nothing's worked. He's not stupid (not bright, but not stupid either) but he just has no internal motivation whatsoever.

I hope your skid has success with the summer tutoring! I wish we had somethiing like that around here.

14 in 7th grade? Sheesh, the rate he's going he'll be 25 before he graduates high school (IF ever)!

Yeah, he just turned 14. He's a year behind as he failed (wasn't held back for social/developmental reasons- failed) kindergarten. We're HOPING he'll graduate high school, period! At this rate, yeah...it's not looking too promising!

SD14 is only in 8th grade because she failed 3rd or 4th (I can't remember which). This girl is DENSE and I am so afraid she'll still be in high school after 19...

DENSE! That's exactly SS14. This is the kid who will look at a pan of spaghetti cooking on the stove and be like, "Um, are we having spaghetti for dinner?"

SS will still be in HS at 19, at least, unless he drops out. :O

Yup - that's the way SD14 is. Last year, she even said "I didn't realize you could actually WATCH the clouds move in the sky! I knew they moved, but didn't know you could SEE it"...

She also thought Japan was a "state" in China because "all those oriental people look the same anyway".

Oh, and the teacher mentioned that the tutor (an 8th grader) that we'd been paying to tutor him at the beginning of the year recently told her that he had to stop because he couldn't help him anymore because SS goofed around the entire time.

This kid! He thinks its all a party and that money grows on trees.
