A Long-Awaited Ann Update

For those of you who have been following the misadventures of my friend Ann, sorry I haven't posted on her in a while. I've had a lot of my own stuff going on, work has been insane, and quite honestly, I got tired of Ann's drama. And it IS drama, all the damn time.

Ann was suspended from her job a couple weeks ago. I don't know why, but she was called into the boss's office, went to her own office, and left with a box of her stuff. Later, they came and confiscated her computer. I don't know what it's about and I won't ask- that could get me in trouble for talking about an investigation. All I know is that she hasn't been turning in paperwork on time or getting clients services they've applied for. So I haven't seen her in a couple weeks. We text and talk on the phone occasionally, but that's it.

She and Hot Tom are still...well, whatever they are. He's been giving her the privilege of seeing him about once a week- maybe- because he's oh-so-busy. Mind you, they've been together almost a year at this point. I've told Ann that she's a warm body to have sex with and a babysitter, but she isn't hearing it. When it's just the two of them together, it's magic! They have such deep, intellectual conversations about all the great mysteries of life! I wonder if that's before or after they've smoked their respective medical marijuana. I mean, they should have lots of time to spend together since Tom recently got "laid off" from his $100,000+ per year job. Go figure.

Ann's son Chris told her he wanted to spend Thanksgiving break with his father out of state, which is a first. He also has told her that he wants to spend his entire two-week Christmas break with his dad, and only spend Christmas Eve with Ann. And so it begins...Chris is tired of her crap, and I have a feeling he'll be asking to go live with his dad as soon as a judge decides he can make that decision. The latest? Chris and Mary were playing on the trampoline in Tom's backyard last weekend. Mary did what Mary does best and poked and antagonized until she got a reaction. Chris- one of the most cool-headed kids I've ever met- ended up punching Mary in the face three times. A bit much? Maybe, maybe not. Mary's been putting her hands on him for almost a year with no repercussions. Ann and Tom both saw it happen. Of course he got on Ann, telling her to rein in her kid and let him know it's never okay for a boy to hit a girl. Naturally, Ann replied, "But it's okay for her to put her hands on him?" Another happy family afternoon.

I hate being the kind of person that's always right about this kind of stuff, but it's playing out exactly how I knew it would. I saw this train wreck coming a year ago. I and two other mutual friends have talked to Ann till we're blue in the face, but everything's GREAT!

I'm calling it now- Ann will be hitting bottom in the next few months. I hate to say it, but I hope so. Only then will she finally, hopefully, start getting her s&^% together.

You know, I was hopeful for a while there. She wasn't happy. But...Ann has super low self-esteem. She's intelligent, beautiful, personable, but she comes from a super-messed-up family. Both of her parents are high-functioning alcoholics (I think Ann is too),and her sister and mother are extremely co-dependent. I guess the Tom life is her normal.

And, yeah, "laid off." That's what she says. I'd bet my next paycheck he failed a drug test, or went to work toasted.

I don't think he even had this job, TBH. I think he was blowing smoke up Ann's butt. I have no idea how he affords to live, but I doubt he had this super job then got mysteriously laid off after only a few months.

So they are both unemployed sitting around smoking pot. Sounds lovely!

I have nothing against pot but it does make me unproductive.

He'll be around until her EI runs out, unless she gets another job.
No way he's going to stick around with no money coming in.

I am new and don't know Ann.
I surely hope that Chris has some good sober support system on his side(I totally agree that he was in the right and s***head Tom should have stopped his(?)daughter sooner.Ann has a responsibility here too btw).

Ann and Chris don't really have much family. She's not close with her parents. Chris' dad lives in another state and he doesn't see him much, unfortunately.

Tom's daughter is a nightmare. Seriously. She's got SO many issues, and putting her hands on other kids is the least of them. Honestly, I kind of cheered on the inside when I found out he punched her. I don't care if that's wrong. Serves her right. He's kept his temper in check for a year.

oh dang - I want to know why Ann got suspended....

hand in the cookie jar ? High at her job ?

WE all know Tom was never really a catch and probably never working for a year now,

Chris should simply tell his father after Christmas he's not going back, and Dad should get custody

I want to know too! It takes something MAJOR to get suspended from our agency. And to have her computer confiscated? We're all dying to know here- it had to be BAD.

At this point, yeah, the poor kid would definitely be better off with his father. Ann needs to get out of her toxic relationship, get her alcohol issue under control, and get her job mess straightened out. She's got nothing to give Chris right now. As for the pot, whatever, that's a personal choice, but NOT when her kid is in her care. ((shakes head))
