Tax Return Fraud

frustratedstepdad's picture

So I started a tax return last night for DW and I. Last we put both SD22 and her son on our taxes, since we supported them both. Well come to find out that SD22 is filing taxes this year, AND is claiming her son. Which ultimately means we will probably owe the IRS this year since we both have jobs and won't have any dependants.

Instantly I became pissed. She does NOTHING to financially support her son, and she contributes NOTHING to our household. SD22 seems to have no regard for the sacrifices people have made on her behalf to make sure her son is taken care of. SD22 was also going to say that she paid $1000 towards daycare costs of her son. In reality, my wife and I paid this money. Also the person who watches her son (SD24) runs an at home daycare and gives SD22 a big break (almost 50% off) on the cost. If SD22 tries to claim daycare cost, then SD24 would then have to report it as more income and pay more taxes.

It's not even the money that pisses me off, it's just the fact that SD22 has NO regard for anybody but herself and only does what benefits her. My DW busts her ass day in and day out taking care of SD22's son. I got DW a 10 week fitness bootcamp class for Xmas this year, but she isn't able to attend now because of us having to take care of SD22's son. It's also pretty laughable that SD22 would get about $3000 in taxes back, considering she half-assed worked a legitimate job this year, and of course she's not going to claim all that tax-free money she gets stripping at night. Oh well, it's no matter. Come April 1st I don't care if she has to live in the streets and give blowjobs for a living, she is getting the hell out of my house!!!!

Hey, I hear you. The bm has claimed stepson for the last 2 years before we had a chance to file. He hasn't spent a night with her, and she pays not one penny of child support. Yet she feels she is entitled to the deduction. If she tries it again this year (she claims she will not) we are filing a paper return with proof of his residency for the last 3 years. I understand we will get the money for the last two years as well and she will have to pay back the IRS.

Yeah if I were you I would give the IRS a call. Don't they have a tax hotline you can call for reporting people?

The only reason I am not making more of a stink about SD22 claiming her son is that it gives her more money to move out with.

And look on the bright side. She can use that 3K for a security deposit and get the hell out of your house. That ought to hold her for a month or two before she comes begging for help.

I agree. I would sit down with her and her wife and say that the moment that the check arrives she has one week to find a place and put down first and lasts rent on it. 3,000 is more then enough money to move out and so she will have no excuses not too.

Very true snickersgal, but like others have said. I want her the hell out of my house. Not to mention she just got a student loan refund check of $1800 last Friday. That plus her tax money should be more than enough.

She's a part-time student, but actually it wouldn't be fraud for us claiming the grandchild.

Oh it's not a tough argument at all. Both SD22 and the grandson are on our health insurance. Also if the IRS actually looked at how much income is reported on her W2's, there's no way she could support her son on the income that's reported, so we have provided ALL of the support. Trust me, SD22 is too selfish to even buy her son a gallon of milk with her own money.

Like I said, I just want her selfish ass OUT of my f$%^ing house!

I'd sit down w/SD and make her put the money in an account so she'll have funds to move with. Or have her turn it over to you and DW. If not, when it's time for her to go, that money is going to be long gone.

Good idea Shannon, but I don't care if her money is gone or not come April 1st. I don't care if she doesn't have a dollar to her name by then. SHE WILL NO LONGER BE LIVING IN MY HOUSE ON APRIL 1st. DW is 100% behind me on this.
