BM trying to be a hero

Yet again BM called on our weekend with the boys to yell at SS13. She called DH’s mobile, asked to talk to SS13 (who was in the shower). DH has SS13 return BM’s call.

SS13 starts whispering into the phone; DH can tell BM is yelling at SS13 about something. DH pipes in “What did you do now? Let me talk to your mother.”

SS13 reluctantly hands DH the phone. DH asks BM what’s wrong…2 weeks into this quarter and SS13 is missing assignments and getting F’s in 3 classes. DH asks BM why she didn’t tell him when he took her call while SS13 was in the shower and BM says “because I knew you’d be mad at SS13.”

DH was mad and rightly so. We had just gotten back from skiing, we had postponed the outing for a month because SS13 was failing language arts last quarter and we didn’t want to reward his poor behavior (SS13 was able to bring the grade up to a C+ for the quarter). SS13 has always been an average student but 3 failing grades – totally unacceptable.

DH banned SS13 from video games at our house. He also wants copies of all his completed missing assignments by the end of this week. If SS13 doesn’t provide the copies he won’t be allowed to go skiing with us the rest of this season. (We all love to ski and have a family ski pass.)

This happens all the time. BM tries to be the hero by keeping negative information about the boys from DH. I told DH I think she uses DH as a threat I.E. “I’ll tell your dad if you don’t do better.”

BM isn’t a parent, she’s their friend. Then BM wonders why ssons go ballistic when she does try to parent them.
