It's time to grow up already SD16
Dear SD16,
It's time for you to pull your head out of your butt and start thinking ahead for your future. Your drivers test is scheduled for June 13th which means you should be driving with your Dad or I every day until then because lord knows you still have no clue what you are doing. It shouldn't be our responsibility to wake you up at 5:30 on a Monday to take you driving.
You are also starting to look at colleges. I asked you repeatedly for a list of places you wanted to visit and that I was more than happy to set them up for you. Guess what? Most college open houses are done for the rest of the summer so you will have to wing it next year when you start applying.
You’re Dad and I agreed to pay for your prom ticket this year because of your excellent grades but you have yet to tell me that the money is due by Friday. I only know this because our noisy helicopter parent next door told me. I am going to wait to see if you can pull your stuff together and tell me before Friday. Also, there is an after party at the high school. I guess you just want to come straight home.
Your Dad has decided that we need to start letting you fall on your butt for not taking initiative in your own future. I agree with him and as hard as it will be for me to step back and watch someone I care about fail her drivers test, not going to prom, or picking a college that isn't right for you. I know that I need to step back and let you fail before you start to grow up. The world is a big place and you need to start participating in it. I know your Mom is a horrible roll model but we have strived the last few years to teach you a better way to live and prepare for your future.
The ball is in your court now. Your Dad and I are done.

I could almost have written
I could almost have written this, except I'm the one pushing SD16 to grow up, DH thinks is ok for her to act like a 6 year old!! I had to push for her to get her permit so that she could get her license a year later. Even after getting her license she still never goes anywhere. She stays at home all the time, very rarely goes to friends or out with friends. She has no idea what she wants to major in or where she wants to go to college. She is having a hard time putting her heard around the fact that she will be graduating in 2 short years and needs to start preparing now. But i'm done with her and with trying to get her father to cut the umbilical cord. I've put my foot down that she will be moving out after HS, either to college or get a job and get her own place. Not living with me forever.
SS13 asked me to buy him baby
SS13 asked me to buy him baby food. Almost 14, he still sits in his father's lap to cuddle.
I couldn't write this to
I couldn't write this to STB16SD because her grades are bad and I doubt college is in her future and she hesitates not one little bit to ask for money for dresses and dances. As for driving, I had to painfully listen to a good 30 minutes with her on speaker phone with her dad asking him all the questions for the online test for her restricted and him giving her the answers. I said to him, "you know she has to know all the stuff herself so she doesn't kill herself or others on the road, right?" I thought she was just taking practice tests up until the point she said, "thanks dad. It said I passed." at the end of their conversation. I would gladly trade my SD for yours.
