Bratty McBratFace Update

caninelover's picture

Hey ya'll!  Sorry I've been absent but steplife remains relatively dormant for me, and we've been totally immersed in our new new puppy.  Now 6 months old and the star of her puppy obedience classes.  Actually a star wherever she goes - she is a gorgeous golden retriever pup!  And a very very goodest girl.

As for my steplife - Bratty McBratFace will turn 26 in July.  As some may remember she had delusional dreams of becoming a doctor (narcissists love to feel important, after all).

Well first there was the flunking out of post-bacc program 1.0, which was to prepare her to apply.  After a year break due to 'stress' (keep in mind DH paid for post bacc 1.0 year and basic living expenses) Bratty completed an easier post bacc 2.0 with loans.

Post bacc 2.0 was completed May 2022.  First they were studying for MCATS in November (so of course they couldn't work, but seem to be financially mooching off Nutter Girlfriend).  Then that changed to May MCATS (last weekend).  Which then changed to - computer issues during the test so poor Bratty must retake them at yet another later date.

At some point it is sad no one will lay out any truth for her (med school is not likely, please make a plan b).

But I just smile and nod - not my circus, not my 26 year old monkey who is sworn in a pre nup to never live with me again.

Life is good.  I wish peace and well wishes to all my fellow steptalkers!

I wonder how long it will take her to wake up.  Is DH still paying or is it student loans?

Plus mooching off dumb nutter GF, who has a high paying tech job.  DH is not paying for any tuition after failed post bacc 1.0.

Let's hope she doesn't- and no tech lay off for nutter either.

That way you don't have to remind dh of prenup.

Yes, Nutter is the blessed insulation-slash-wallet in the equation. Thank goodness, and fingers crossed it's Twu Wuv forever.

But not bad enought to intervene of course.  Nutter is actually 28 or 29 I think so her problem.

Full disclosure, I had them as well though far from an entrenched case. I started an honors pre-med program my first University after HS.

I was a HS honors grad and entered Uni on an honors program. That lasted a single semester.  Highly structured Military School for HS and JC followed by the free for all of University.... I failed miserably.

11 years/ 7 colleges or universities/ 7majors later... I finished my BSEE (electrical engineering).  I started a company when i was 21 and sold to my business partners when I was 26.  My issue was not so much pursuit of grandeur, my issue was I loved school and every elective would likely get my attention and I would change my major.

After my second year my parents threw up their hands and told me to pay for it myself. I paid for the middle 7yrs of my 11yr plan. Mom and dad helped with the last 2 of my 11yr undergrad career.

Grad school also was a drawn out event, though not due to inattention, or chasing a new major.  My employer paid for it though on a reimbursement basis of $5K per year.  So, I spent $5K per year stretching a 22mo MBA program out to 48mos across all or part of 5 calendar years.  That one I finished with high honors.

I learned, eventually, that for me anyway, University was not about finding what I loved to do. it was about getting an education with a marketable skill so I could do what I wanted to do when I was not working.  That model.... has worked extremely well for me, as it did for my parents, and has for my younger brother.

His mom and I were clear with SS. if we paid, he could pick between a STEM category or Business as his undergrad major. If he went another route, he paid for it.  Ultimately he has gone the STEM direction (computer science) though the taxpayers via the USAF are paying for his University studies.

Professional student.  Bratty loves the idea of sound smart (makes her holier than thou of course) so basically loves school and is also probably embarrassed that the med school thing may not work out.

I don't bother coaching DH on it anymore but have made clear Bratty is unwelcome to live with me, nor is my money going to support her poor choices.

The sad thing is he paid for her undergrad completely - she could have started life with a college degree and zero student loans.  But, stupid is as stupid does so now she'll have loans to figure out including an alternate path since I think med school will not work.

that would be my perfect career.  Lol.

As for Med school.  My SIL's BIL was hell bent on med school. He could not get into any med school in the US. He did med school in a Caribbean island country.  He had to to a Master's in Kinesiology at that school in order to get into the actual med school. He did graduate.  He did pass the state boards in the US after graduation.

He is an OB/GYN.  He entered a rural Doc tuition foregiveness program and is just about done with that.  He had to serve for 15yrs in a rural location and the medical group paid off his loans.

A great guy, smart. But.... insists on doing everything as torturously as possible.

Maybe Bratty needs a Med school where the cadaver lab is stocked with those  the government wants to get rid of.

My SIL's BIL has stories about that.

What a shock LOL

She needs one of those $2200 Mac book pro. So she will not have computer problems next year.   MCATS are only given once a year.

caninelover's picture

No they are given quite frequently, usually a few times a month.  They provide the computers the rest is given on.

Whos SD wanted to be professional mermaid and that was YOU dear lady Biggrin

Thanks for the update. I too am going "dormant" in steplife. We are pretty much empty nesters now that SD24 Feral Forger is living in beach town in a house share down the road from Toxic Troll BM and SD16almost17 Powersulk in their section 8 by-the-beach apartment. Us being about 25 miles away makes it easy. Visitation is currently at zero. Not much absence drama and grades I dont even know.

NOW you get to really hunker down and enjoy life without step dramz.

And I just saw your post and commented.  Dormancy is the best thing we can ask for in steplife.  Like a volcano that is dormant but may explode again in the future LOL.

Enjoy the peace cLove.  It really is a form of PTSD and takes some time.  But enjoy the journey and find YOUR passions in life now.  You deserve it lady!!!

Yesterday, I got home. Went in SD16/17 PS room. I had been thinking about the uke seriously. Im wanting to expand my life in different ways - art, music, travel. So I went in 'her" room and noticed a broken string and loads of dust. Googled "music stores clove city". Husband got home. Kiss kiss, he went off to bathroom. I zoomed out to get to music store before closing time. I never said a word about leaving or wanting to learn instrument. I was home late, thats all he knew, after leaving without a goodbye.

He was suspicious!!! LOL. That made me laugh. He knew I was up to something, I really am an open book.

I just really want to expand my life. Try different things. I dont have bios, I dont know why I never did this until now, except, well there is a room filled with music instruments that no one else is using. Ive nothing but time. Ive no ulterior motive, havent been talking with anyone who would encourage this. Its all just me.

Ill let him stew over it. He can discuss with Barnical Buddy.

caninelover's picture

The room full of instruments is calling you to explore some artistic side of your inner self.  Go for it, and you don't owe husband or B/M any explanation.  You paid for the the room it's housed in, and paid for so much over the years, and not just in dollars.  Consider it abandoned instruments, fix them, then use them for your own enjoyment.

Its the time of YOU now.  Figure out what makes you truly happy.  You really do deserve it!
