Bratty McBratFace is now 'doing well' in post-bacc 2.0

What a difference a week makes.  SO arranged for a call with Bratty McBratFace after her prior texts from a week ago indicating they were 'not doing well' and had a relapse of mono.  SO's report back painted a very different and very upbeat picture.

Bratty seemed happy after her long weekend in Denver with Nutter GF (apparently they were there for a wedding in Nutter GF's family).  Bratty seemed re-energized and said she is doing well enough in her post-bacc 2.0 classes except for Physics (her nemesis LOL) which she says is really hard.  She has mid-terms coming up next week.

Bratty also said she was still planning to complete the full year program of post-bacc 2.0 and is planning to take the MCAT in April.  She is applying in the spring for a Fall 2023 admission at one specific medical school in the LA area (apparently is is fairly new and is offering the first 5 years of applicants free tuition, but it is a small program so only about 30 are accepted each year.  And 2023 is apparently the last free year).  She is realistic that it is a long-shot but wants to try.  If it doesn't work out she will apply more broadly for the Fall 2024 admission.  She plans to work in the interim year or two but didn't say doing what specifically.  So, her doctor dreams are alive and well.  We'll see if they still are after taking the MCAT.

Things are apparently going well with Nutter GF.  SO asked her if things are 'getting serious' and if they are exclusive.  Bratty said they are not exclusive but that doesn't mean things are not serious.

Then Bratty mentioned that she and Nutter GF will be in our area the weekend before Thanksgiving for another wedding in Nutter GF's family.  She did not ask to stay with us (YAY) so they may be staying with Nutter GF's family.  She did ask SO if she can stop by to pick up her inflatable kayak currently being stored in our garage to take back to her communal house.  Which I am thrilled about since it finally gets that thing out of my garage.  That is actually the last of Bratty's junk in the garage at least - she is now down to 2 bins of stuff and one guitar (both stored in SO's office).  YES YES YES YES YES!  I reminded SO that once she takes the kayak we're not taking it back so its her responsibility from here on out and he said absolutely yes.

Bratty said she and her communal house roommates are having a Thanksgiving party - so no more stress about Bratty staying for Thanksgiving here.  I did remind SO that if he wanted to invite Bratty and Nutter GF to stay for lunch or dinner that was fine with me, but he should plan on cooking/hosting.  He said he would like to make the offer so we'll see what happens.  Bratty may say no or want to meet at a restaurant instead, which is all fine.

Finally Bratty asked him if we were inviting BM Darth Vader to our wedding reception next summer.  SO nearly fell over before he said hell no.  Why would anyone invite their ex to their re-marriage?  She asks the dumbest questions sometimes.

So that is the news from Bratty McBratFace.  It was nice to see SO happy and not worried after Bratty's upbeat attitude.  Let's hope it continues!

She makes weird decisions - why would she just apply to one medical school? Medical school is extremely competitive, and taking a year off after the post-bacc won't help her chances.

But apparently people do apply in batches over 2 or 3 years so it is common enough that it doesn't hurt their chances as long it doesn't go longer than that.  Apparently the way the timing of everything works (completing post-bacc and MCAT) Fall 2023 would be the earliest admission and many post-baccs have a 'gap year' that they fill with either research or clinical jobs.  It is expensive to apply to med school and most people apply to a dozen or more each cycle and hope they get a few interviews and maybe one acceptance.  If not, they apply to another batch for the following cycle.

She wants to try to get into this one school first while its free and if she hits the jackpot there than no need to spend the additional $ applying to others.

But I agree, if she thinks it is such a longshot than she really should just go ahead and apply to a bunch for Fall 2023.

I think the stranger thing is how she is so sick and miserable one week and then shiny and happy the next.  WTH?  But oh well, not my circus not my monkey...

Exactly, apply to a bunch, not just the one.

My money is still on her dropping out of this post-bacc.

Now I'm thinking she will stay at least until the MCAT so probably end up finishing the program.  We'll see from there...but who knows.  Her plans are forever changing.

Scary.

I'm thinking about the communal Thanksgiving.  Wonder if it will all be vegan?

Probably take-out from Boston Market Smile

Yes I agree and had rather hoped she would change course sooner rather than later.  Not because I want her to fail but because I just have doubts she will make it through med school.

Not exclusive... Yet serious?... what?...

Sounds like things are goin smooth for you though!!!

caninelover's picture

I assume that's what they have.  As long it works for them and they aren't being dishonest with others then whatever floats their boat.  Though I think now we know how Bratty got mono LOL...

Yes, nice and smooth, knock on wood (or the much less aggressive 'touch wood' LOL)

As long as they're happy I guess. lol. Does explain the mono though. Gotta be careful with who you decide to do things with for sure.

I'll knock on any wood I pass today to be sure it stays this way for you.

Applying Fall 2023, then 2024...I mean, this sounds like a neverending process. By the time Bratty actually starts her "career," she'll be retirement age.

Also, my (estranged for good reason) SIL thought it was ok that BM here thought she would be invited to OUR wedding, you know, because of skid (the eternal trump card).

Let's see, in 2024 she would be 26.  4 years of med school, plus 4 years of residency/internships.  So she'll be about 34 when she gets her license - and that is assuming things go smoothly (which is uncommon for Bratty).

Is heavenly based on MCAT test scores.  Unless you score really high you will not get a seat in any medical school.  Especially a free one, or a state school what also cheap in the medical school world. Private schools are easier but it's like $80,000 to $100,000 a year.  Medical school takes lots of time so you can normally not be able to work . So everyday money is needed.

Almost everyone gets loans to pay for tuition plus expenses through med school.

Reading through your blogs and now this one rings such a familiar bell. Constant drama and meltdowns then "oh nvm things worked out fine" same with the BM, they include ME and her in family texting threads, like they are all still family, divorce was over 20 years ago. She is invited to every get together they put on. It's weird. They wanted her to attend our events held at our house. Hard nope on that one. It's taken 7 years (and me) to find our groove of DH having a relationship with them that does NOT include her. Kids are all adults with families of their own.
