Cr@ptacular Winter Concert

BettyRay's picture

DH and I got to the concert and of course BM had saved seats for us again this year. DH takes the seat next to her, I take the seat next to DH – So he’s in the middle.

BM immediately starts in on us about how SS11’s pants were too small and how could we let him go to school like that when today is the concert. DH tells her SS11 left our house in the morning wearing a nice shirt but he couldn’t remember what pants SS11 was wearing.

BM glares at me. I responded by telling her SS11 has been wearing pants that are too small to our house and that is all he has by us. I told BM that I told SS11 to change into nice pants when he got to BM’s house before catching the bus for school. SS11 said ok, no problem. The kid is 11 after all. He’s old enough to take some responsibility for his appearance.

BM then says in a know-it-all tone “BettyRay you have to take the clothes that are too small away from SS11 otherwise that’s all SS11 will wear. That’s what I do.”

At this point I just look at DH and roll my eyes – DH knows exactly what I’m thinking – BM’s comment is total BS because if BM is taking clothes that are too small away from SS11 he wouldn’t be wearing them to our house. :?

SS11 also slopped chocolate milk all over his nice shirt during the day. BM’s solution was to have SS11 wear a sweater over the shirt to cover it up. Only one problem with that solution – SS11 decided to take off his sweater in the middle of the concert. NICE. SUPER CLASSY.

The kicker here is that BM gets home from work when SS11 gets home from school. She had about 3-hours before the concert to get SS11 into another outfit. But what does BM do? Nothing; and then yells at SS11 after the concert for taking his sweater off.

Oh and what’s worse than sitting through a winter concert with the ex-wife-in-law? Sitting through a winter concert with the ex-wife-in-law, behind the guy that’s holding up his iPad, filming his kid, live linking with grandparents. I ended up moving off to the side of the gym, standing, so I could see. SERIOUSLY?!? If you’re going to do something like this get yourself a spot where you’re not blocking everyone else’s view.

I agree with the BM on the "you have to take away clothes that are too small or that is all they will wear." She probably doesn't do it herself though. Haha. My SD is also 11 and she has been growing like crazy. Twice this year I have had to go through her clothes with her to get out all the small clothes, because she does keep wearing the flooders and the shirts with holes all in them over and over until I put a stop to it.

My DD10 will sometimes try wearing pants to school that are so short she looks ridiculous. Now I go thru her stuff and hide it all.

BM should have changed him if she had him before the concert. She was lazy!!! And who better to blame it on than SM!

Yes, it is easier the blame it on the SM.

BM had plenty of time to get an outfit together. She was probably too busy posting about it on FB Wink

I do take clothes away that are too small, every 3 months or so I go through and get rid of what doesn't fit.

All the pants that fit SS11 are at her house. If she practiced what she preached SS11 would have only clothes that fit him. If I get rid of all the pants that are too small - SS11 would have no pants.

I refuse to keep buying SS11 pants to wear back to her house. Been there, done that, won't do it again. And my DH backs me up on this.

Yeeee-uck! Just because she saved seats doesn't mean you need to sit there Smile

We never sat with BM...either with XH or DH, but for *whatever reason* my XH would always sit AS CLOSE to me/DH as possible when he attended kid events. (Back when he was still around.)

It rather creeped me out. He would literally come sit right next to me, DH, or the kids. It mattered not to him. :?

I totally agree with you SAF.

I have had more than one conversation with DH about this but he just doesn't get it. So I've let it go. But I couldn't resist asking DH before the concert if he was looking forward to sitting between his past and his present at the winter concert. }:)

In all honestly, I'd be fine with us sitting a row ahead or behind BM - near her but not next to her.

OMG my step son is ALWAYS wearing pants that are WAY too freaking short on him. He looks like steve urkel and it's so ridiculous. Not to mention his pants/shirt half the time are on backwards because he has adhd and she doesn't medicate him despite me begging her because he act ridiculously embarrassing in public. I'm completely serious when I say out in public people probably think he is mentally challenged. She also buys him the cheapest walmart clothes ever, they are so awful! and no it's not because she doesn't have money she is just too lazy to go anywhere else but walmart.

Next time you sit next to her. And when she starts complaining just tell her to STFU. (said in a very sweet bless your heart voice)

At least you could go to the concert. My SD 5 and 8 had a concert last week and I planned to go. BM REFUSED TO SEND THEM BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT I WAS COMING. I made a point to tell SD11 I wouldn't make it to her concert because we wanted to make sure she would be able to go.

Winner WInner Chicken Dinner.
