SS9's sick day so far...update

I'd like to start by saying thank you to those of you who responded to my last blog. It is always good to get others opinions when my fuse is so short...also good to know that I'm in fact, not being a meanie but was actually making sense.

I told SS last night as I was putting his weepy self to bed that he was not going to school today. He woke up at 7:30 freaking out that he had missed the bus...then he realized that SD8 was at school & calmed down a bit. I asked how he was feeling & he said "I'm feeling a lot better...I want to go to school"...then proceeded to get all teary eyed. I told him he's OBVIOUSLY not well & needed to go get some more sleep...which he did. He slept until 9:00

SO, as he was leaving asked if SS would be watching TV...I told him no, that he needs to rest...he pouted & headed out the door.

SS HATES being on his own...I have no idea why but seems to feel like he's being punished if he has to be in his room, on his own.

I gave him some tea & toast...telling him that today is a relax only day...I asked him to find his new magaizines (HE LOVES THEM!) so that he could lay in bed & read. He said "Okay Anywho" but was obviously unhappy about the idea. After he got settled in bed, I went in & saw him. The poor guy was weeping (literally) silently while trying to read. I asked what was wrong & he said "Nothing, I'm just reading." I explained that he was not in trouble but that he just needs to rest. He asked if he could come in & lay on the couch to read instead of on his bed. I didn't see a problem with this so he's now laying on the couch skimming through some goofy book. He's being quiet & calm. Hasn't asked about the TV once & loves the fact that I'm letting him use my big brown fluffy blanket.

We'll see what happens once SO gets home.

Me too. I assume anywho thinks he is faking and does not want it to be play time while missing school....?

I get it now. I read her last blog. SS has been grounded from TV for being bad at school.

So that you both know, my SS is NOT calm while he watches TV...he has PDD (NOS) & gets overly into watching ANYTHING...he tends to start bouncing around & acting the fool...therefore, reading is a much more calming activity than watching TV.

As far as "cuddling" with him...because of his PDD, he does NOT like being touchy feely...it creeps him out. I have to say though that when SD is sick, she doesn't want to cuddle either. SS is fine with my dog laying with him, but that's about it.

Before anyone starts throwing out excuses due to the PDD (over behavior issues since SEPTEMBER, if you read my last blog), SS is a VERY HIGH functioning PDD. He gets straight A's & fully understands any/all conversations, just like any other child. The only differences is that he has ticks, has to work harder to focus & has a very high need for stimulation (touching/mouthing, etc). The fact that he's using my fuzzy warm blanket right now is keeping him a happy camper.

Also, I do not want to make "sick days" too fun...playing board games & watching TV makes it like a vacation. I don't want him to start faking being sick because he wants to play rather than go to school.
