OT - Thirsty Thursday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

The weekend is almost upon us and Christmas is 11 days away. What's your favorite Christmas beverage?

I have 2 favorites: eggnog and Brandy Alexanders.

Brandy Alexanders MUST be the frozen kind made with ice cream. The biggest problem I run into is that most bartenders fail to calculate the increased mass of ice cream vs. regular cream and the drink tastes like vanilla ice cream with a faaaaaaaaaint hint of brandy and nutmeg. I, on the other hand, HAVE calculated the difference and my Brandy Alexanders are legend. Freshly grated nutmeg on top looks professional and is tastier than the already ground stuff.

Evan Williams Eggnog is utter perfection. There is nothing more to say.

Tom and Jerry - Cool!! I haven't seen/heard anyone order one of those in many years. Biggrin

I keep it simple.

Trader Joe’s Almond Nog (it’s THE best!) and some good bourbon. Preferably Blanton’s or Bulleit. Topped with fresh nutmeg.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Blanton’s? I wuv you, momjeans.

I have never had Almond Nog. Intriguing...

The feeling is mutual, Aniki.

And, yes! DH is a bourbon connoisseur. I’ve had the best of the best bourbons!

I don't drink alcohol, but have been drinking almond nog and soy nog this year- so good! Better than regular.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Witch.hazel, I am getting 'curiouser and curiouser' about this almond nog! I like almond milk... is it similar in any way?

witch.hazel's picture

Yep, it's just almond milk that they've added the spices to- but it's thicker, so they must've put something like starch in it. The soy nog is very watery, but that makes it refreshing. That's from the silk company. I also tried coconut nog. All good!

Idk what groceries you have wherever you are, Aniki, but I go to Meijer or Kroger for almond, soy, or coconut nog.

Kahlua Thickshake Thingy

- two scoops vanilla ice cream
- milk, fill the glass to 3/4
- stir leaving chunks of ice cream
- add a good shot of Kahlua over the top (or two shots depending on your day)
- add whipped cream on top
- garnish with grated chocolate, cocoa or cinnamon
- serve with a spoon

Repeat.

If you don't have Kahlua, you can substitute a shot of rum, a shot of coffee and 1 tsp vanilla extract .. or just drink the rum.

THINGY?? I'm In Like Flynn!!!

P.S.
It is illegal for Aniki to NOT have Kahula or Di Saronno at all times.

I like to put Bailey's in my coffee on Christmas morning.

I wet the rim with a raspberry and dip it in sugar first, then pour the coffee, Bailey's and some frothed milk.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Blue Moon, have you had Bailey's Almond Milk liqueur? Nom nom nom....

Evan Williams Eggnog is delicious!!! I also just had a mimosa last week - instead of OJ, they used Ocean Spray White grape juice, cranberries and fresh rosemary. The best mimosa I ever had

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Tiger, that sounds tasty!!

Evan Williams is the only eggnog I drink.

French small-vineyard champagne.
I buy several bottles.

Oh! I did buy some Port the other day for some Stilton/walnut snacks with DH too.

Absolutely anything that has alcohol. In fact I’m in favor of staying inebriated until 2018.
