OT - Forn Friday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

'Forn' is 'food' and 'p0rn' combined. With subzero temps across the U.S. (I, personally, enjoy these temps AND the snow!), let's talk about comfort food. Hearty, savory, belly warming comfort food. Food that cooks/bakes for hours while you cuddle up on the couch or in your favorite chair wearing fleece pants and fuzzy socks, with a good book/magazine or watch a movie or 3 or an entire season of your favorite tv show. Food that perfumes the entire house, making your nose quiver and your mouth water. Mmmmmmmm.....

I love a good pot roast, but that doesn't take all day to cook (DAMMIT!). It needs to be something that cooks for at LEAST 3 hours! So that means:

* Beef Burgundy (love that rich red wine sauce)
* Chili (mine is so thick you can eat it with a fork)
* French Dip (I have to buy extra bread because DH uses the leftover dip as, well, dip!)
* Mom's spaghetti sauce (which means there will be a lasagna in the future!)

What do YOU have cooking?

Alfredo sauce is versatile and delicious, but mine takes less than 30 minutes to make.

French Onion Soup is da bomb!!!!!

BTW, my spaghetti sauce is almost as meaty as my chili. Biggrin

I make great chili. I make a pasta sauce that DH loves, it has all kinds of chunky vegetables in it.

He also loves my grilled cheese sandwiches. I don't know what I do to them but he says no one makes them like I do!

Chili over a baked potato with a sprinkling of extra-sharp cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream...

WATERY CHILI?!?! :O
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DaniAM73's picture

My last job the cafe downstairs sold chili. That mother father was sooooo watery. I wanted to tell her, you need to have me make you a pot of chili. Sadly, those vultures I worked with loved it.

Quick question since we are on the food forn, does anybody have an instapot? Has anybody seen or used one? I have been seeing a lot about them and I'm about ready to jump on that bandwagon, especially if it means when I get home I can make an amazing meal quickly without having to spend an hour or two at the stove.

Not an Instapot but we bought a Nesco pressure cooker on Black Friday. We made a roast in it (with carrots and potatoes) and it was pretty awesome. We have not experimented with much else since we bought it but we need to.

I have a NuWave-I got it last year for Christmas and the thing is battle worn but it is my little dinner making buddy and I love him.

Love winter food! Anything in a slow cooker or pressure cooker. Also I like to fry the garlic and onion then add a bit of soy sauce before adding because ...the smell. Coincidentally winter food goes really well with red wine.

-Beef Stroganoff
-beef stew with dumplings
-pulled pork
-homemade soup (thick soup, really easy) with homemade soda bread or garlic pizza
-chili con carne

Hungry after reading this thread lol.

Valkyrie, what do you serve with the Beef Stroganoff? Noodles? I have a Russian friend and they make nests of fried potato strings.

I make a bomb homemade potato soup with sharp cheddar and broccoli. It’s super hearty comfort food.

I always make my own croutons, too.

I've been making a lot of chicken wing dip lately. Mmmm. Love a good chili too. Tonight I'm in the mood for KFC, though. Yum

Oh yes! I never knew perogies came in blueberry. My polish friend introduced me, and we have been inseparable ever since. Smile

While I'm waiting for dinner to cook, I'm making some snacks...

Baguettes sliced on the bias, spread them with some boursin cheese, then a layer of shroom pate, and top with chopped sundried tomatoes, toasted pine nuts, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Yeah, I'm kinda stuck on those baguettes...
