OT - Yes, I talk about food a lot

Yes, I talk about food. A LOT. I am obsessed with food. My world revolves around it. It sustains me, it comforts me, it annoys me... and it rules me. I have an eating disorder. I'm a recovering bulimic. If you're not familiar with bulimia, it is an eating disorder usually characterized by periods of binging — or excessive overeating — followed by purging. Purging means you make yourself BARF.

I say I am a 'recovering' bulimic because, like an alcoholic, the 'urge to purge' NEVER GOES AWAY. So to stop myself from physically PURGING, I purge with words. Talking about food is cathartic for me. No, it does not work for all bulimics. But it allows ME to figuratively purge instead of doing it physically (which can have a terrible effect on your health and do all kinds of awful things to your body).

So. If you have a problem with me posting about food, making comments about food, using a food idiom to describe a situation, I invite you to IGNORE MY COMMENT and go on with your life. Go Directly to the next comment/blog. Do not Pass Go. Do not collect $200.

STalks says that this is "Where Stepparents Come To Vent". This is MY vent. YOU have the option to ignore it.

Well said. I look forward to your food posts. It gives me ideas about what I may want to cook. I may not always comment but I do read. Keep posting. I learned something new about you. We have never met, but I can tell you are a sweet natured person. Post on!!!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dani, we all have to eat! And not everyone is handy in the kitchen, or creative, for that matter. I, for one, am always looking for new recipes to share at holidays and gatherings!

ProbablyAlreadyInsane's picture

I will religiously read all your food posts. I too love food. (Also way to be beating Bulemia's a$$!)

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Thanks, Probably! I don't know if I'm beating it, but I've made progress. Bulimia is definitely a daily battle for me.

advice.only2's picture

I love your posts, you always give great food and drink recipes. Purging verbally is a good way to cleanse the soul...I mean that's what pretty much everybody is here for right? To purge their souls of their annoyances with step life...so I agree with you, troll on haters.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Thank you, advice.only! I do love to be creative in the kitchen (and bar!).

Purging verbally is better than self-destructive behavior.

Acratopotes's picture

Aniki.... with that line opener I thought we where going to have a heavy sexual discussion, not bloody food.....

}:) }:) I'm not a recovering sex addict lol.... but those blogs where a whole lot of fun....

so whom ever complained about the food and wellness blogs should go and suck on a bag of dd... eggs and stay off it, nothing wrong with talking about food and recipes...cause we hardly look at that division of ST, it's way to hidden for my taste...

just do me a fav and no Blue cheese talks  Wink

witch.hazel's picture

Yes, I wrote that she likes to talk about food a lot, and we would be good friends (I love to eat).

Someone else wrote, "why does everything have to be about food?"

I can see with an eating disorder background, how one could be offended by those comments. Mine was well meaning. I apologized below on this post.

dragonfly5's picture

Food, alcohol, sex... all great subjects! Blog and comment away. I looked up a flour-less cake recipe because of a comment yesterday. Thank you! I am a baker at heart.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dragonfly, I luuuuuuuurrrrrv to cook AND bake (IMO, there is a difference!). At work, my baked goods are in high demand for food days. Homemade candies, as well!

dragonfly5's picture

I am an average cook. But I am a great baker Smile just saying }:) ...
Love to bake. It soothes my soul. DH loves anything with fruit. So pie, cobbler, cheese cake, are always on my list.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I love fruity recipes, too, and recently concocted a new cake recipe with some fruit DH brought home from a coworkers farm. He loves that cake so freakin' much, I've baked it 5 TIMES in the last 6 weeks. I passed the recipe on to my sisters and Dad and my sisters have threatened me with bodily harm if I share the "new family recipe". LOL!!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Acra, I'm uncertain how well a sex blog/discussion would go over these days... :?

And you KNOW I'm a fan of great sex!!!

hereiam's picture

I love reading and talking about food! Unfortunately, I love eating it, too.

What's wrong with talking about food? Everybody eats, everybody can relate to food.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Hereiam, I love eating it, too. If I didn't, I wouldn't be overweight!

I have only met one person who could not relate to food. She had absolutely NO sense of smell, which affected her sense of taste. Because she could only taste highly spiced/hot peppered foods, it was all about texture. Cake? Couldn't taste it. Ice cream? Couldn't taste it. Mashed potatoes, pasta, bread... couldn't taste it. Her 'diet' revolved around chili and sriracha on Every.Single.Thing. Well, except for cake and ice cream.

beebeel's picture

Someone seriously complained that you talk about food too much? Dang. I'm beginning to wonder when the full list of "can't say that on Step Talk!" is published. It's getting mighty long!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

This sh!t is bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!!!

BTW, I can't stand that freakin' song. LOL!

moving_on_again's picture

Aniki, no complaints here! I think you actually help my appetite. Smile Glad you aren't purging anymore!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Moving_on, it's a daily struggle. Right now, I'm fighting the urge to purge breakfast. Monday night, I was fighting to keep my dinner inside.

I know there are those who have trouble gaining weight and/or lose their appetites due to stress. When it comes to food, I'm a wicked temptress. }:)

--figureditout--'s picture

I knew I loved you, Aniki! I am an alcoholic and cannot bring myself to use recovering. I will always be one as there is no cure but death. AND....I adore your food posts! Keep on keepin' on <3

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Figureditout, I use the word 'recovering' because I still fight the urge darn near every day and have not caved into it for a couple of years. However, if I DO cave in, I will once again consider myself A Bulimic and start anew.

Good luck with your progress, hon!! {{{HUGS}}}

witch.hazel's picture

Aniki,

I'm sorry if I offended you yesterday, I meant it as a nice thing, because I'm the same so I feel we'd have a great time toghether. I love food, it's basically the highlight of my life, only behind my kids and dog!

And I'm also a recovering bulimic so I understand how you probably would have felt receiving those comments. I apologize. I love your posts about food and other misc. memories to get us all to share, etc. This site wouldn't be as much fun without your thoughts and creativity.

Veritas's picture

I didn't see "the" post yesterday and I don't know who may have upset Aniki...BUT...I want to respond to you because I have a lot of respect for those who step up and own what they do without excuses. You really show a bunch of kindness and compassion...that's really nice and I had to say so Smile

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Veritas, it was more of an annoying fly than an upset.

BTW, it is nice of YOU to say that to witch.hazel. Too often, good/nice things that are done are never acknowledged. Thank YOU!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Witch.hazel, you did NOT offend me. We're good, sweetie. xoxo

It was the "everything being about food" that got stuck in my OCD mind and wouldn't go away. Why does everything have to be about food? Because in MY world, life revolves around food. Therefore, if food is not foremost in my thoughts, it's hovering at the perimeter.

witch.hazel's picture

Oh, you are not alone in that Smile Food is the first thing I think about when I wake up, and all day long.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Food is what I think about when I'm lying in bed, trying to fall asleep. It's a time when some of my best recipes are concocted!!

New_to_this's picture

I love food too and I appreciate you opening up about your struggles! I've been on this site for years and I just noticed right now that there was a whole recipe section on the website.

justkeepstepping's picture

There use to be a ton more recipes. As people were banned and/or accounts deleted their recipes disappeared like the comments do. Sad

New_to_this's picture

Sad Yeah, the last banning spree was awful. It's so unfortunate that so much info was deleted.

Disneyfan's picture

I'm angry with you for taking time away from talking about food in order to explain why you talk about food. }:)

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I'm sorry, Disney!!!
~hands Disney a slice of triple layer chocolate cake with layers of raspberry and almond paste, and topped with chocolate glace~

DaizyDuke's picture

Please tell me someone didn't bitch about food posts and you actually got your hand slapped???
Lort, this is getting beyond ridiculous.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

No, Daizy. I made a comment on a blog and used a food idiom (with lots of 'additives') and someone commented "does it always have to be about food". So I wrote this blog because, for me, YES, it always has to be about food.

Dovina's picture

Thanks to you Aniki I have started baking again. I used to love it, then life got super busy, darn kids and activities got in the way, and then never resumed baking. I read your food posts and think yummm got to bake again.
So thank you!!
With eating disorders, every day is a struggle, something or anything can trigger an episode. I lost a childhood friend to anorexia/ bulimia back in the early 80's. Its an awful disease. Hugs, and hope you have it under control now.
Stay strong and post your food blogs!!!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dovina, I've also started baking again. After I disengaged, I stopped. But you can't keep a good cook/baker down!! My DH has a ginormous sweet tooth and he loooooves my baked goodies more than candy (and he loves candy!). Add the cooler Fall weather, and I've been cooking/baking up a storm the last several weeks. He's still waiting for me to cook up that brisket I bought (it's huge, cut it in half and froze it, and will be trying out 2 new recipes). Might be Sunday; might be middle of November. I'm in baking mode right now!

classyNJ's picture

Bring on the Crabs!! And cake and pie and cheese, etc!

And thanks for sharing your every day struggle. We all are here for you!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Classy, I think the fake crab legs are called 'sea legs' or something like that. There is also fake lobster. Both are nasty. IMHO. If I can't afford, at the very least, a can of primo lump crab meat every now and again, I'm not living right!!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Witch, post away! I usually post a blog when I'm looking for ideas. I post in the recipe section when *I* have something I want to share because I think it's good for people who don't have much time to cook or because it's darn tasty!! Biggrin

Talk away all you want about food. I love food too!
AND I love your posts about food! Usually gets me in the mood to get up off my rump to cook or bake!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Salems, I've been cooking all week.
Made fried rice on Sunday.
Made brussel sprouts (with BACON) for my dinner on Monday.
Baked a cake last night.
Not sure what I'm making for dinner the next 3 nights, but I'll definitely be cooking.
Saturday, I'm making some stuff for a party.
Sunday... I might make a new red wine brisket recipe. Or a beer brisket. Or something else. But I'll be cooking!

WTF...REALLY's picture

Girl, everyday is about food! Everyday we gotta get.

Keep the food talk going. And the drink talk. I wish I could still talk about sex...sex is a fun subject.

But food and drink make my soul happy. I made an epic red lentil soup for dinner last night Smile

*walk away mumbling....I can’t believe someone complained about talking about food......

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I've had people complain about me talking drinks, too...

If I didn't have cocktails, how the he!! would I deal with step he!!??

Tuff Noogies's picture

you should have verbally b!t@# slapped whoever was thoughtless enough to add that completely uncalled for comment. at least you said what you had to say here in your own blog. the only reason i logged in here today was to see if there were any new recipes in your appetizer blog.

an analogy is a comparison to a something, usually common and widely known. there is not much else that is as universally known so much as FOOD and sex, and admin has issues with the latter subject due to advertising.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Tuff, here's a recipe for Chicken Enchilada Roll-ups

Chicken Enchilada Roll-Ups

2-8oz cream cheese, softened
1-1/3 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
1 tsp garlic, finely minced (you can substitute powdered)
1-1/2 Tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
salt to taste
1 rotisserie chicken, skinned and shredded
1/4 bunch cilantro, chopped
4 green onions, chopped
10 ox Rotel tomatoes OR chilies OR tomatoes and chilies
1 package of 10 large flour tortillas

Mix cheeses until well blended.
Add the remaining ingredients (except tortillas!) and mix well.
Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
Place one heaping spoonful onto a tortilla and spread to edges.
Roll and cut into slices.
Serve with salsa.

Cover1W's picture

Keep talking! I wish I had more time to cook! And bake. I'm resolving this winter to make more cakes and bread.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Cover, bread is something I want to start baking. I only make one kind of bread - Rieska (Finnish flat bread). I want to branch out and try breads made with yeast!!
