OT - Blog vs Forum Topic, and Finding Your Stuff

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I've had some people ask me about the difference between posting Blogs and Forum Topics and thought I would share what I know.
Also, there was a recent Forum Topic asking for "help finding my activity" and I'll tell you what I have found.

BLOGS vs FORUM TOPICS

  • Blogs can be deleted by the OP.
Forum Topics can only be deleted by Admin (you must request this from Admin).
  • Blog comments can be deleted by the OP.
Forum Topic comments can only be deleted by Admin. You do have the option to Edit your comment.
  • Blogs can be set up as OPEN (Users with the "Post comments" permission can post comments.) or CLOSED (Users cannot post comments.)
    Forum Topics always allow comments.
  • Blogs can be Tagged (Tags help others find your post when you "tag" the blog with terms relevant to the content.)
    Forum Topics cannot be tagged.
  • You can easily find all of your Blogs in your Account.
It takes a little bit of work to find your Forum Topics and comments, but it IS possible (see HOW TO FIND YOUR COMMENTS below).

FINDING YOUR STUFF

  • MY ACCOUNT (Your 10 most recent Blogs and 10 most recent Forum Topics are listed on the left.)
    • VIEW - your basic info, View recent blog entries (takes you to YOUR blogs), Send this user a private message (click to send a message)
    • BOOKMARKS - any blogs or forum topics you have bookmarked (a quick way to find things you want to follow)

      • ACCOUNT - your email address, password, upload a profile pic, set Comment Access settings, control private messages, set your time zone
      • MAIN PROFILE - your country, State/Province, Biography about you and your situation (not mandatory)
    • RELATIONSHIPS
      • CURRENT - your current STalk friends - oldest listed first (also where you can remove people from your friend list)
      • RECEIVED REQUESTS - any friend requests you have received, but have not yet accepted/rejected

      • ST_ADMIN - only for STalk ADMIN members (probably not you)
  • MESSAGES
    • MESSAGES - Your messages listed newest first, write a new message, delete selected messages, mark messages as Read or Unread.
NOTE: If you mark a message as Unread, it will mark the ENTIRE message as unread. IOW, you will need to go back to every page of the message for the system to recognize the message as Read (or mark it as such).
    • BLOCKED USERS - Users who are blocked from messaging you
  • MY RELATIONSHIPS -
    • CURRENT - your current STalk friends - oldest listed first (also where you can remove people from your friend list)
