Dear Valued Users,
It's with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of StepTalk.org on August 31st, 2025.
This decision wasn't an easy one. For over twenty years, StepTalk has been a source of support for stepparents around the world! However, over the years, the costs associated with maintaining and upgrading the site to remain secure, meet current standards and maintain availability have become unsustainable.
We are incredibly grateful for your support, contributions and the community you've helped us build. Your engagement has made StepTalk.org a special place and we cherish the memories and connections made here.
We would especially like to thank Aniki for volunteering to be a moderator and for caring so much.
Thank you for being a part of our journey and we wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Dawn and The StepTalk Team

I’m going to have to go ahead and agree with steperg on this one…
Only the people involved would know if this was an act of aggression or just a piss poor attempt at humor.
If I were the one on the receiving end of the bag I’d have kicked him (or her) in the shin as hard as I could and then laughed when he got a hurt look on his face… might have made the point.

It was my husband. We had an argument over nothing important at all, and his response was to put a plastic bag over my head, tug it to make it tighter and then he let go. It scared me very much. When I took the bag off he started to laugh as it was a big joke. He apologized after I started crying.
I just called the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), and talked to someone.
They confirmed that it was domestic abuse. They said that when couples are separating, domestic abuse can escalate. I was planning to move out this weekend, but I think I should get my things and go today.

Go. Today. The next time may be while you are asleep.
That is just too freaky weird. And as much as I don't think every time someone shouts as you as abuse, this one is at the top of the list. Move out today.

I am moving out today... thank you Oneoffour. It was a real eye opener.

To me, that's more than domestic abuse... that particular action could be considered attempted murder.
I'm glad you're getting out today. I can't even imagine what you've gone through before it came to this... You are in my thoughts.
BTW, what is it with all these domestic violence situcations lately?
Not funny at all. I think
Not funny at all. I think you could get him arrested for assault with this. I would be terrified if that happened. Glad you are leaving.-!!!!!!!
