OT: Suggestions for my cat

zerostepdrama's picture

His tumor is basically draining (I guess this is normal). I am supposed to keep him from licking it, because of his tongue (sandpaper) it will only make it worse. I have been washing it with water and antibacterial soap and trying to keep it covered. Keeping it covered (to keep clean) and to keep him from licking it is a challenge.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to keep it covered?

Tumor is on his side right above his hind leg (Think of area where they usually give vaccinations in cats) so I have to leave it open where he can use the bathroom.

Thanks!

Side note- He's doing "okay". He doesn't seem like himself but he doesn't seem miserable either. He's still eating, drinking, using the bathroom. Just not as cuddly Sad

Yes! Vetwrap tape is the bomb. I have like 20 rolls of it in the barn for the horses, but have used it on the dog, and even on BS6. It is flexible and sticks to itself so no need for tape so no ripping kittie's hair off on removal. You could put a gauze pad or a maxi pad or something on the area that is leaking and then wrap vetwrap tape around kittie's back and under her legs to hold it in place.

BS6 burned the palm of his hand back in PreK... difficult area to wrap...unless you have vetwrap! Even the Dr. said it was genius and BS6 got a kick out of it because we would change the color every day when we changed the dressing lol

Oh this is a good idea.

Made me think about a wrap bandage. I can put a feminine pad on his sore and then wrap an ace bandage around his body.

They have a cone of shame at the pet store. It isn't like the one you can get at the vet. If you google it, it worked for my little guy.

get a newborn or premie onesie (small if it is a large cat) and put it on him backwards. That is what folks with tiny dogs do.

If you have to resort to a cone, then his quality of life is over. Does the vet have any recommendations for how to cover the wound? I think the onesie idea sounds like a good one -- might take two of you to wriggle it on him every day. Wishing you the best.

Maybe if you called the Cone of Shame an "Elizabethan Collar" kitty would be more accepting of it.
