DH refers to his kids as "my daughters" "my daughter" never her name

zerostepdrama's picture

DH rarely says the girl skids (especially MSD and YSD) names.

It's always "My daughter" or "my girls".

Me: DH what are you doing today?

DH: I'm taking MY daughter to lunch.

Me: Hey DH any plans later?

DH: I'm spending time with MY girls.

And then there is me.

DH: What do you have going on today Zero?

ME: I'm taking BSNAME to the movies.

DH. I get it. They are your daughters. Your girls. I know that. Why dont you just say there names?

It annoys the hell out of me. I dont know why.

Anyone else got something similar?

DH will call SD "Honey" and we both say "What?" Because that's what he calls me. It used to annoy me, now i don't even care anymore. Like everything, I think I just get over it because it's just stupid anyway.

Oh yeah... he used to call both me and YSD "Baby" and I told him to STOP. Either me or her gets that name but not both.

I dont know why this whole "My daughter" "My girls" thing annoys me but it does. Something little and thankfully I dont have to hear it very often. I just dont get why he wont say actual names. Ha ha. It's only with them.

YES! It's usually over text. "I'm on my way to pick up my son from school." The last time I texted him back "What? You have a SON?? I had no idea."

It just gets under my skin....glad to know I'm not the only one!

I think you nailed it! Everything you said before your last sentence is his reasoning I believe.

DH says "MY girls" always has. And he refers to my kids as "the kids". Weird but whatever. Any sentence that includes "my girls" gets zero attention from me. Luckily I don't have to hear it too often right now since DH is working 4 hours away.

What's irritating is to hear the sds say "my daddddiiiee" to my kids or even to OUR child, who is their half sister, but don't you dare say that to them because their baby sister is at BM's house. Whatever.

I think I just become hearing impared alot lately.

I had the opposite happen yesterday..... DH came to tell me that SS16 was going to help him get our new washing machine. Well SS16's names sounds very like one of DH's friends name and since SS16 has nothing to do with DH (unless there is a gift giving occasion on the horizon) I assumed DH said friends name... So I said "Oh, Friendsname is helping you? That's nice!" DH (with pissy tone) says "No, SS16, ya know, my SON" Gag

Yeah DH, I know your pothead, delinquent SON. Funny thing is SS16 "helping" apparently translated to DH picking SS up, taking him to lunch, then taking him with to Lowes while LOWES employee loaded washing machine into truck, then dropping SS16 back off at skankholes and Daizy actually "helping" unload, carry and install said washing machine.

But hey, that's all GOOD with me! I'll gladly break my back screwing off with a washing machine to NOT have SS16 within a 50 mile radius of my home. Wink

I have no idea because I am rarely around him and the skids. But I can guess with almost 100% certainity he refers to me by name. No "wife".

My husband also used to call both me and SD "babe". I think he was calling her "baby" but shortened it to "babe" sometimes. It bothered me and I told him to choose one of us to call "babe". I wasn't going to share a term of endearment with a then 4-year-old. It was weird.

I think it implies ownership; I agree with MarieJeanne he probably refers to you as "my wife" with others. It may also be a cultural thing... my sister & I were always called "[Dad's name] Girls" by the family. Interestingly enough, my son does get called by his first name; SD is known as "[Hubby's Name] daughter"

BM does this. I've NEVER heard her refer to either of her kids by their names. It's always "my boys," "the boys," "my kids", "my sons." It's like she has to constantly reassure herself of the relationship.

SAME. I had the same thought you did too.
exact same only girls. Lol. It's pretty sickening actually.
