OT 41 weeks and 2 days pregnant

Still no baby. I had my 41 week ultrasound and NST yesterday. She got 8 out of 8 points on her metaphysical, so that's good. And the NST confirmed what I already knew, I'm having very strong contractions. The down side? While I'm 70% effaced, I'm not really dilating and my cervix is still way far back. I've tried everything to try to get things moving. Sex, walking, squats, bouncing on a birth ball. I'm scheduled for an induction on Friday morning, but I'm pretty scared because I know those have a high fail rate with an unripe cervix. My midwife can't even do a stretch and sweep. Do you ladies have any late pregnancy/inductions stories that aren't nightmares? I know at the end of the day as long as we are both safe and healthy then it's all good, but I was really hoping to avoid these kind of interventions.

My prayers to you. If both you and the baby are OK then, all is right with the world. Hang in there. A bouncing health baby will be yours soon. How wonderful!

I am sorry. I never had any children. What is your doctor telling you? Is your doctor telling you might need a C section?

Right now no. They want to induce though, which has a high failure rate if the cervix isn't ripe-which means I have a high risk of c section after they start the induction process. Of course they're going to give me something to ripen my cervix before induction but it may not work :/

I went in two days before my due date to have my membranes stripped. My water broke right on the table within 5 minutes. Unfortunately I was in labor for 24 hours and pushed for an hour of that. I ended up having a c section because he wasnt progressing.

Just let nature run it's course is my only suggestion.

That's what I would prefer. Unfortunately they won't let us go past 41 weeks five days (or 11 days past my due date)hence the induction on Friday.

Castor oil . . I've been a birthing coach and attended many births . . It works more than not. Just cut it with orange juice for the taste.

P.S. Try not to worry...I am sure that does not help. Try taking a shower with nice shower gel. Then use a good body moisturizer? That might help you relax. Try to think positive and happy thoughts. Smile

Glad that you posted an update. I'd lurked and followed your story.

Had my child, induced, unripe cervix stuff. It was slow-going because I believe my boy was braced with hands/feet on either side shouting: ".... NOOOOOOO ...." (Now, if he doesn't do this when I'm shoving him out the door when he is in college.) Started Pitocin finally around 8pm, doctor broke my water with a finger swipe which was the worst of it. 13 years later I still don't think that I forgive Dr. Bell. Seriously, I remember his name. BS appeared ~5pm the next day.

This is an exciting time in your life ... waiting to meet your child in person ... Breathe and consider that when you're my age this will be a life-altering memory. Sending you warm thoughts.

Thanks Indigo. My midwife won't break my waters unless we stall on pitocin thankfully. I can't wait to meet this stubborn one Smile

See my midwife told me not to touch castor oil because it can make the baby have her first bowel movement during labor. Nipple stimulation we are trying along with sex. Fingers crossed. Either way, I'll be in labor at some point on Friday!

I was induced at 41w 1d. I had dilated 1cm on my own but had had NO contractions whatsoever. I was in labor for about 12 hours. Needed a vaccuum assist at the end but no c-section. I'd have another induction in a heartbeat.

Best of luck to you! Take a deep breath and think about holding that little baby!
