complications I'm really scared

porcelian-doll's picture

I spent the night in labor and delivery I've been having contractions for the past two days. They didn't cause me to dilate or anything and I'm under strick orders of bed rest and to drink lots of fluids. I'm 30 weeks this is my first pregnancy and I'm really scared they wil start up again. I was doing my breathing excersises with DH and my midwife over the phone last night and my contractions stopped. I couldn't sleep at all. I'm shaking and I have this really heavy sharp vaginal pains. Please has anyone esle been through this? I can't rest I'm bracing myself for the worst.

How can I tell the difference between Braxton Hicks and true labor contractions?

In the days or weeks before labor, Braxton Hicks contractions may intermittently become rhythmic, relatively close together, and even painful, possibly fooling you into thinking you're in labor. But unlike true labor, during this so-called false labor the contractions don't grow consistently longer, stronger, and closer together.

That sounds like it could be it. My contractions where 3 minutes apart but didnt grow longer but they felt pretty sharp. Why wouldn't my docotor tell me it could be this?

I kept going into preterm labor with my DD. I had to go into the hospital a few times, they kept giving me something (sorry I can't remember the name of the drig) to make them stop. The meds made me feel like I was going to have a heart attack but it worked every time. I was on bed rest for 6 weeks but everything was ok.

My only advice is if you are scared go to the hospital next time. I would rather be told I was silly and that they are braxton hicks than the alternative and have my water break early. Only you know what you are feeling, so trust yourself!!

I did go to the hospital the doctor checked told me I wasn't dilated and had me stay in albor and delivery over nigth and put me on strcit bed rest with orders to drink alot of fluids and to come back if they start up again.

Yep. I had contraction non-stop from 33 weeks until delivery at 39 weeks. Got told I had an irritable uterus and was in pre-term labor. But I didn't dilate past 2 cm until delivery time, so I got put on bed rest and told sometimes this happens. Day of delivery the contractions changed. I know it's easier said than done but try to relax, stress is Not helpful.

Could be braxton hicks but it might be dehydration! At 20 weeks i ran around all day (even chased down an injured goose and brought it to a wildlife rehab center) and basically didn't drink any water--I'm also someone who rarely "feels" thirsty, and ended up with bad contractions.

Keep drinking fluids and take it easy! You're so close!

I started having braxtons EVERY WEEK starting at 30 weeks with my second. I honestly thought I was going to have her early. I dilated to a 3 for 5 WEEKS.

She was 9 days late. I will tell you LABOR contractions feel more like pressure (Think someone SHOVING you in the stomach) than pain (in the beginning. Hurt like the dickens during transition.)

I had the sharp pains too. I'd bring it up to your doctor, just to be safe, but for me it was nerve pain from my 9 lb 6 ozer pressing on my pelvis.

" I've been having contractions for the past two days. They didn't cause me to dilate or anything "

That's Braxton hicks. If they aren't causing you to dilate - then you are fine! You're going to be okay - just relax and enjoy your last few weeks of relaxation and freedom.

Try to relax it sounds like false labor if you aren't dilated. Even at 30 weeks you could deliver you are just stressing yourself and making it worse... I also really want a milkshake now.... mmmm.

they can be painful for some (nothing like REAL labour though LOL.

Everyone experiences pain differently, labour differently etc so it's a hard call.

I'd go with Braxton hicks, especially with the first, when you are "expecting" something but don't know what it's all a lot scarier and seems more painful.

If the doctors weren't too concerned (overnight and home again, get some rest and fluids) then I would relax and just take it easy. The doctors wouldn't have let you out so easily if there was anything to worry about - one thing I will tell you to do though -

ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS - ANY TIME YOU HAVE CONCERNS, ARE SCARED, NERVOUS, WHATEVER - DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK THE DR'S AND NURSES WHAT IS HAPPENING ETC. The more you know the more in control you feel and the less painful and scary it all is.
