Food in the car!!!!! Opinions

steplife's picture

I don't think kids need to be eating in the car unless it's under certain circumstances like a long road trip. Outside of that, they can eat before leaving or wait until we get to destination. They are not going to starve to death! My DH continues to allow SD7 to bring dry cereal in the car every damn morning on his way to take her to school. She spills it constantly all over the car "on accident". Both cars have smashed cereal everywhere because of this (we trade cars on certain days when I have to go far for work so I take the vehicle that gets better gas mileage to save money) so basically we share cars. It's been dirty for at least two weeks! I think SD needs to clean it but he hasnt done anything about it. On the way out this morning SD spills all over the floor and crys . DH says "it's ok we can clean it up later we don't have time right now" so there's a huge f**king mess all over right now!!! Then he walks outside to leave. THEN walks back in after getting SD situated in the car to get MORE CEREAL for the car ride! Sure he has time to get more cereal but not to clean up WTF!

I told him "you need to get SD up 15min earlier so she has time to eat before leaving"

His reply "but she needs to sleep in"

Me: "Well put her to bed 15 min earlier so she gets enough sleep"

DH: "Then I won't get to spend time with her at night" WTF he works a normal 9-5 job!

Ugh I'm so sick of the messes sitting everywhere! I know I can just clean it up but why should I HAVE to do it!? The cereal on the floor is just sitting here at home and I just get more pissed seeing it!

Anyone have advice?

Yeah seriously 15 MINUTES! Guess what? You will be making up that time by spending 15 minutes eating breakfast WITH your kid! We let her eat on long trips too, but in those cases I KNOW I will be cleaning out the car when we return so I am able to mentally prepare for it! No big deal in those situations. If I'm going to allow it then I know to expect a mess.

I have the same issue. I had to put my foot down because SD9 can't seem to get out of bed with enough time to eat. And since she kept leaving messes in my car...I told her, if you don't eat in the house, you don't eat breakfast at all. I can't stand the disrespect for my property. Its like really! Get your ass up and eat your damn breakfast, its not rocket science. Yesterday she went to school hungry. This morning she sure as hell got up and ate before we had to leave. I didn't think it would take long for it to sink in.

I hate food in the car too. I usually find it when it starts to have mold growing on it. Its so gross. So now, BF has to clean my car because anytime he uses it, he brings it back dirty. I was walking to the mail box on Monday and there was a half eaten donut in his front seat. I asked him where that was from, it was from Saturday when he took SD to get breakfast. My reply was and this is why you don't get to take my car anymore.

All food is to be eaten at home at the table. No food or drinks on the couch. No food or drinks in your room.

And be thankful yours doesn't think its okay to wipe boogers and chewing gum all over the back seats and doors. And fuck up the windows by smearing her greasy hands all over them.

The car we have was new in October!! I remember DH saying no food in this car once we pulled of the lot. Yeah that lasted about 1 month until SD wanted to eat breakfast on the way to school. DH "She needs to eat in the morning, she can't go without breakfast" umm I agree so MAKE TIME to eat in the morning AT THE TABLE!!! Also hevlets her bring markers/crayons on new leather seats, because God forbid she gets bored in the 20min ride!!!

It really pisses me off when skids leave crap all over our car. We only have the one car now as we couldn't afford to run two and I HATE finding half eaten fruit and empty wrappers everywhere. They take packed lunches to school and think it's okay to leave their lunch bags in the back of the car with half eaten stuff in them. I've told DH over and over that at 10 and 11 they're plenty old enough to clean up after themselves but he seems to keep on their backs for a week and then forget again. It's a pain in the ass when I'm driving anywhere with the dogs as they're constantly rummaging around in the back looking for leftovers - very annoying and distracting, all because dh and skids can't be bothered with a simple thing like removing their leftover crap!

You stick with one car and make DH stick with the other. He can allow them to eat if he wants to, in HIS car. But not in yours.

Exactly!!! I hate how he thinks his kid is going to die for going on a short car ride without a drink or a snack! Anytime we stop at a gas station or run into the grocery store SD whining "I'm soooo thirsty, I'm staaaaarving". In my head thinking - Shut up ! You do not know the meaning of either of those words! DH always likes to buy stuff, if I'm with her the answers always "No, we will be home in 10min"

UGH! Guilty Daddy eats like a woodchipper and his "ANGELS" are WAY worse. The smell of soured chocolate milk, stale fries and skidpiss. Wrappers EVERYWHERE!!

SHUDDER!!

oh and I remember the kicking of the seat; of course Guilty Daddy would get angry with ME for noticing! Not sorry they all PASed out!

I let dd7, ds4 and ds2 eat snacks in the car that won't make too much mess - bananas, packet stuff. I wouldn't let them eat breakfast in the car every morning, that's just silly. It's an important meal and shouldn't be rushed in the car, quite apart from the mess. If he's so concerned about not losing out on time because he has to put her to bed earlier then why doesn't he make an effort to get up earlier and have breakfast WITH her?
