SS13 Got a Much Clearer Picture on What it takes to Earn a Dollar

After deciding that he did want to use his own money for his school trip, rather than not attending, SS had some work to do to earn an additional $37 to pay for the trip. He also wanted to earn another $100 for spending money.

We are hoping that BM comes through as she said she would and will be bringing SS's $120 to the school on Friday to pay the balance of what is owed for the trip. (Detailed in other blog, but BM had SS13 bring over all his birthday and holiday money of $250 to her house so she could "help him save for a laptop" but apparently, $130 was spent by the two of them and he only has $120 left). We'll see if that happens.

So, We have a huge yard that has been overgrown and neglected. I was actually ready to call a yard clean up crew to come handle it since hubby wasn't.

So DH had SS mow down the entire yard - which was a very difficult feat. He also had to rake leaves, put debris in trash bags and by the end of his 8 hours on Saturday, he was exhausted. He kept asking DH how long he'd been out there. SS "figured" he'd be earning $10 an hour. DH told him, no. He's new at this and a slow worker, so he'd earn minimum wage, $8. DH chuckled when SS realized, "I've only made $24 so far" - after 3 hours of work.

SS put in 8 hours on Saturday and then called it quits after 4 on Sunday. So that's a grand total of $96 that he's earned.

I want to ensure that he does at least enough to cover both the $37 and the $120 that is owed - just in case mommy doesn't actually have his money to give back to him. So he will definitely have more yard work to finish up in the weeks to come.

Then along with understanding how difficult it is to earn money, he can also see that his mom is a thief and that she is the reason that he does not have spending money for his trip.

We'll see what happens on friday.

I mentioned the potential scenario of BM NOT bringing SS's money to the school on Fri and how that would result in SS needing to do more chores to earn the money.

DH looked at me (as he was feeling pretty good about the life lesson "he" was teaching SS) and said, "OMG, he would have a break down if we mention that to him right now".

LOL.

It is funny how kids think that money falls from trees. Just this morning DH and I were talking about paying bills and my 3 year old walked up and said "mommy, I have $1,000". I said "you do!" and she said "yeah, the man from daddy's work gave it to me".

She is refering to the nice man that gave her a $1 bill at the truck parts store the other day!
