I am excited!! :)

We found out last week that we were going to get to have SD5 here with us this summer for a few weeks. Only crappy thing about it is WE have to drive the 1200 miles (one way) to get her AND drive the 1200 miles (one way) to bring her home. That's almost 5,000 miles in less than a month. A lot of driving, but I think it will probably be worth it.

Hubby is excited to *finally* have his daughter with him, even if it is for only a short amount of time. We have started to re-do the room she will be staying in. This means I get to decorate! We started out with the mindset of "this room is SD's", but have since changed it to "this is the guest room" since she will likely not get to be at our house much. Either way, I don't care. I get to paint, re-do furniture, and have I mentioned yet...decorate! I am excited to go buy her clothes and toys. I am excited to make the room fun looking enough for a 5 year old, but also "elegant" enough for a "guest room". I want to personalize the room some how for her. Maybe get an old wooden chest to refurbish as a toy chest for her with her name on it. We're going to add a bar in the closet for her clothes that is more her height. Then she can pick out her own outfits and have a little independence for once.

I am most worried about budgeting for all of this. We have to save our pennies so we can make the drive out there. We also have to stock up on some toys and get her enough clothes. I'm a little afraid of getting her clothes now, because if she has a massive growth spurt in the meantime, they may not fit. I think I will just get her pants and shorts a little big and buy belts. Her mom thinks she's "tall", but coming from a woman that is only 5'1" that's not really saying much. SD5 is actually quite short and very skinny.

I can't wait and Hubby is nervous. He says that he doesn't know what to talk to her about. He says he's not sure what to do with her when I'm gone at work. It's funny, because he'll be fine. He has watched my friends little girl who is the same age as his kiddo numerous times and that kid LOVES him. From what I've heard, any positive attention SD gets she will be on cloud 9, since BM doesn't pay any attention to her and her other children.

But anyways, as of right now, Hubby and I are excited. I'm sure this will morf into a stressful situation the closer we get, but I guess we'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

You got me excited just reading your blog! That's so great, and I hope that you guys have a great time! I know the drive can be exhausting, but think of it as a fun road trip.

Do you have a theme for decorating the room?

Yup! Roadtrip! We're going to stop and see some of my friends along the way. It's a little out of the way, but we'll be there for a few days, so it breaks it up a little bit.

I have thought about waiting until she's here to take her shopping, the only thing with that is she probably won't be coming with any summer clothes. BM didn't even have WINTER clothes for her until WE showed up after Christmas this past year. She didn't have a winter coat, snowpants, hat, gloves, or boots until we gave her some.

Thankfully (for once) my own mother is kind of a packrat. So she still has some of my toys from when I was little. She's going to send some of my old barbies and my little ponies, two things that SD absolutely loves at the moment. So there's a bonus! Smile
