SS21 - He loves me!

(SS21 tells people I am his mom but still calls me my first name)

Yesterday was my birthday and I was opening up cards from my family and opened one that said "Mom" on the front- thinking it was from DD or DS. It was from SS21 and inside he wrote "Thanks for being the best mom EVER!" - AND before bed he gave me a HUG!!! Almost 7 years in and I think that has only happened one other time! (He doesn't like touching people)

You guys... my heart! He still uses my first name when talking - Which is fine! I didn't come into his life until he was 14 and he is a grown man now! 

I know in my head that I am the only decent "mom" he has had. BM1 is a trainwreck (never even called or texted on HIS 21st birthday). BM2 was boarderline abusive and just wanted him to be a medicated zombie. She despised him and he knew it. He is a lot to handle some days. He drives me up the wall. But I love him and will do anything to support him. He knows it Smile Yesterday was just a good day!

I love hearing this, especially considering his diagnosis. You are a wonderful person and very selfless. You deserved this!

Nice! Glad you are finally getting rewarded for all you do for him (and that he's growing up a bit!)

My OSS, a sensitive person, moved back in with us during a difficult period of his adult life.  He and DH always crossed (different personalities) and during that period, DH was on him non-stop.  I stayed neutral, perhaps tried to tone down DH.  After one particularly volatile session, OSS wrote me a note, apologized for the stress and addressed me as "Mom".  I never tried to replace BM but always had a soft spot for him.  That note meant  so much.

I know how you feel.  Congratulations and hapoy birthday!
