O/T Shingles vaccine sucks!

Just got my second shot late last week (it’s two shots separated by 2-3 months). First one wasn’t too bad. Sore arm. Slight headache.

This one?! OMG. It’s felt like I’ve had a horrible hangover for three days but without the fun night before. The headache was so bad it hurt to wash my hair. Super nauseated. Dizzy. Arm was so sore. Nothing knocked out the headache and I even tried my migraine meds. It’s finally abating now

Drugs, any drugs, affect me more than the normal person. If that’s you, too, then be careful with this vaccine.

Oh my God, I'm sorry that you are going through this.

My DH is also very sensitive to drugs. If 1 in a million people will have a certain side effect, he will be that 1, guaranteed.

I’m the “1% of people get X wildly weird reaction.”

I had a bad reaction to the 2nd dose too...of the new vaccine. It was red and swollen for a long time....

Another woman got a big bruise on the opposite side of her arm from the shot site.

Yeah same here which is unusual for me - I've had a gazillion vaccines and never had any trouble, including after the first Shingrix.  I had a similar reaction, though not as bad as what you described.  Weird.

I also had shingles - and it was a miserable experience. I only had the rash on my back and stomach and I know it wasn't as bad as it is for some people. The worse pain was internal - I had the sensation that a knife was being stabbed in my lower back. I tried narcotic pain relievers and they were not helpful.

I finally used CBD and THC  transdermal patches and they were helpful. When the opens sores on the rash closed over I used a CBD salve and it was great.

Thanks for the warning about the vaccine. My doctor said I should go ahead and get it. I'll be prepared in case I react badly.

Funny story about when I was first diagnosed. I figured it was shingles and went to the ER right away because I knew you needed to start the anti-viral as soon as possible. I went from the ER to an all night pharmacy around midnight. I was driving my recently purchased sports car and was doing well over the speed limit. Of course, I got stopped. I explained to the officer my reason for speeding and he let me go with just a warning. I was a bit sad when I realized I am now too old to flirt my way out of a ticket, I have to rely on illness to do it instead!
