BM's Diagnosis...

So, as we all knew would happen, BM was let go from her job "officially". BUT.... yesterday they were going to let  her know if they are going to give her the job back. I'm not sure what that's all about but... her SM told me yesterday that she has to have treatment and can't afford it without insurance. Apparently since she has a "diagnosis" her employer was considering taking her back since she was let go due to attendance. But... the treatment has side effects that will likely cause more absenses, so that doesn't make much sense to me. 

 

And no one is shocked that her diagnosis is... HEP C. Not even a tiny bit surprised. 

 

What I am surprised about is that she didn't even call SS on Monday. It was his 15th bday. She text him several times, but no phone call. And no attemtp to see him. Whatever... he had a good day despite his "mom".

BM is KNOWN for sueing employers.

So the employer may end up being safer than sorry.

And don't be surprised about her not calling.  It's all about her, right?  SS will be there when she wants him, in her mind.  No need to do anything for him.  (So disgusting!)

Good luck to her getting treatment if she is actively using. Even with insurance, companies and medical facilities will deny Hep C treatment for someone who continues to participate in behaviors that put them at high risk of reinfection. That is doubly true is she is asymptomatic. Without insurance, the most common treatment is $60,000-80,000. Even with insurance, it's still pricey.

But sheesh! I don't really know a lot of details, her SM just told me that she has to go through treatment and that she was told to quit drinking because her liver isn't functioning properly. At this point, all of this is on her. I'm actually surprised she is still alive at all.

Even with insurance, with her drug abuse and lifestyle, and depending on what shape her liver is already in, insurance may not cover it. It is VERY expensive, some treatments are a hundred thousand dollars, depending on the genotype and which drug will best cure it.

I had a friend just go through this (got if from a tattoo needle, most likely) and the doctor's office had to submit the info to her insurance company and they had to approve it (which could take up to 4 weeks). Some people are denied.

I can't believe your little SS is fifteen! I know I say it all of the time, but he is so lucky to have you.

It could have been from tattoo needle as well. I really don't know. She has led such a wreckless lifestyle over the years it could be a number of things. But it explains the resistance to antibiotics with her staph infections. 

 

I can't believe he's 15!! The time has just flown by. I am lucky to have him too :)

Wow, SS is 15!?! I remember when he was 8 and BM was giving you H€ll.

I know very little about Hep C, but my druggie older sister was diagnosed with it about 18 years ago. Our great state of California covered her medical care, she got clean and is still chugging along. (Looks far worse than your BM, but that's what 25+ years of drugging does to your face).

Let's see... when he was 8, that was when BM was living in such squaller that I cleaned her house for her rather than calling CPS on her. It's been down hill for her since then. 

 

I don't know much about HEP C either... but BM doesn't take care of herself at all. Not sure where this will lead.
