Road Trip to the In-laws

We visited my in-laws over the weekend. They live a few hours away from us.

It’s good to be home.

Although I get along with MIL and FIL there are still a couple of things that drive me nuts.

First my in-laws have a cat. We have dogs. MIL and FIL won’t allow our dogs in their house because they’re afraid the cat will freak out and start marking in the house. I respect that but I hate it. (Normally my mom will watch our dogs when we go there but this time she couldn’t.) It makes every trip there with the dogs stressful on me and the dogs as well.

The dogs are confined to the attached-garage, the dirty, gasoline smelling, damp, cold garage. It rained most of the weekend too. If I didn't sit outside with the dogs they were stuck in their crates in the garage. And of course they barked because they’re used to being in the house with us.

The barking – I felt sad for my fur-babies. And MIL was annoyed by the barking. The in-laws bedroom and the garage share a common wall. The dogs barked all night. Well I’m thinking yeah, they want to come into the house – duh. So the in-laws were annoyed, even though DH and I got up at 5 a.m. to take the dogs for a walk, feed them, and hang out with them before breakfast. But I guess it wasn’t early enough for MIL.

MIL also thinks SS14 can do no wrong. That because he and SS10 are COD, DH and I should go easy on them. I explained to her that SS14 is working the system and has figured out how to get what he wants, when he wants it. I told MIL that being a COD is no excuse for poor grades and laziness. It’s so frustrating.

I hope you had a better weekend than I did.
